MELLCOM 20' x 10' x 7' Greenhouse Instruction Manual

Model: 20' x 10' x 7' Greenhouse

1. Safety Information

Please read and understand all instructions before assembling and using this greenhouse. Failure to follow these instructions may result in product damage, personal injury, or property damage.

  • Secure Installation: Ensure the greenhouse is securely anchored to the ground using appropriate stakes or weights. Inadequate anchoring can lead to collapse in strong winds.
  • Snow and Rain Accumulation: Regularly clear snow and excessive rainwater from the roof to prevent structural collapse. The frame is designed for plant protection, not heavy loads.
  • Ventilation: Provide adequate ventilation, especially on warm days, to prevent overheating and ensure plant health.
  • Sharp Edges: Exercise caution during assembly as some metal components may have sharp edges. Wear protective gloves.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the assembly area. Do not allow them to play inside the greenhouse unsupervised.
  • Location: Choose a level, well-drained site for installation, away from overhead power lines or structures that could fall onto the greenhouse.

3. Setup and Assembly

Assembly of the MELLCOM Greenhouse requires careful attention to detail. It is recommended to have at least two people for assembly. All pieces are typically labeled for easier identification.

  1. Site Preparation: Select a flat, clear area for your greenhouse. Ensure the ground is level and free of debris.
  2. Frame Assembly: Follow the detailed instructions provided in the separate assembly guide to construct the galvanized steel frame. Ensure all connections are secure and tightened.
  3. Cover Installation: Carefully drape the PE cover over the assembled frame. Align the roll-up door and windows with their respective frame sections.
  4. Secure the Cover: Attach the cover to the frame using the included tethers, single-sided tape, and Velcro straps. Ensure the cover is taut to prevent sagging and water accumulation.
  5. Ground Anchoring: Securely anchor the greenhouse to the ground. The included ground nails provide basic stability, but additional anchoring (e.g., earth anchors, heavy weights, or a wooden base) is highly recommended, especially in areas prone to strong winds or heavy snow.

Note: Customer feedback suggests that additional anchoring beyond the provided stakes is crucial for stability in adverse weather conditions.

4. Operating Instructions

Ventilation and Climate Control:

  • Roll-Up Windows: Open the eight side windows by rolling them up and securing them to allow for cross-ventilation. This helps regulate temperature and humidity inside the greenhouse. Close windows to retain warmth or protect plants from external elements.
  • Roll-Up Door: Use the large zipped roll-up door for easy access. It can be rolled up and secured at the top to provide additional ventilation or for extended access.

Plant Protection:

  • The reinforced PE cover allows nourishing sunlight to pass through while protecting plants from harsh weather, UV radiation, and small animals.
  • Monitor internal temperatures regularly, especially during extreme weather, to ensure optimal growing conditions for your plants.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will extend the lifespan of your MELLCOM Greenhouse.

  • Cleaning the Cover: Clean the PE cover periodically with mild soap and water to remove dirt and debris, ensuring maximum light penetration. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Frame Inspection: Annually inspect the steel frame for any signs of rust, loose connections, or damage. Tighten bolts as needed and address rust spots with appropriate rust-inhibiting paint.
  • Cover Inspection: Check the PE cover for tears or punctures. Small damages can be repaired with greenhouse repair tape to prevent them from worsening.
  • Anchoring Check: Periodically verify that the greenhouse remains securely anchored to the ground, especially after strong winds or heavy precipitation.
  • Winter Care: In areas with heavy snowfall, actively remove snow from the roof to prevent structural strain and potential collapse. Consider disassembling and storing the cover during harsh winter months if not in use, or reinforcing the structure.

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues that may arise with your greenhouse.

Issue: Greenhouse collapses or sustains damage in wind/snow.

  • Cause: Insufficient anchoring, heavy snow/rain accumulation, or extreme wind conditions exceeding design limits.
  • Solution: Ensure the greenhouse is adequately anchored for local weather conditions. Consider using heavy-duty earth anchors, a solid base, or additional bracing. Regularly clear snow and water from the roof. If high winds are forecast, consider temporarily removing the cover or adding external tie-downs.

Issue: Water pooling on the cover.

  • Cause: Cover not taut enough, leading to sagging.
  • Solution: Re-tension the cover using the provided straps and tethers. Ensure the frame is properly assembled and not warped. In some cases, internal supports (e.g., PVC pipes) may be added to prevent sagging.

Issue: Zippers or cover tearing.

  • Cause: Excessive strain, improper handling, or wear and tear.
  • Solution: Handle zippers gently. Avoid forcing them. Repair small tears in the cover promptly with specialized greenhouse repair tape to prevent enlargement.
