Figure 1: Front view of the Rado R12413463 Automatic Dress Watch. This image displays the watch's gold-toned metal band and case, the gold dial with a patterned texture, and the green stone hour markers. The day and date display is visible at the 6 o'clock position.
Setup
1. Initial Winding
As an automatic watch, the Rado R12413463 is powered by the motion of your wrist. However, for initial setup or if the watch has stopped due to inactivity, manual winding is recommended:
- Ensure the crown is in its normal, pushed-in position.
- Turn the crown clockwise approximately 30-40 times. This will provide sufficient power reserve to start the watch.
- The watch will then continue to wind itself through your daily wrist movements.
2. Setting Time and Date
- Setting the Time: Pull the crown out to the furthest position (position 2). Turn the crown to move the hands clockwise or counter-clockwise until the desired time is set. Push the crown back into position 0.
- Setting the Date: Pull the crown out to the middle position (position 1). Turn the crown clockwise to adjust the date. Turn the crown counter-clockwise to adjust the day. Avoid setting the date or day between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement. If the current time falls within this period, first adjust the time outside this range, then set the date/day, and finally reset the correct time.
- Once the time and date are set, push the crown firmly back into its normal, pushed-in position (position 0) to ensure water resistance.
Operating the Watch
Your Rado R12413463 is an automatic mechanical watch. It does not require a battery. The mainspring is wound by an oscillating weight that responds to the motion of your arm. When fully wound, the watch typically has a power reserve of approximately 38-42 hours.
- Wearing the Watch: For consistent operation, wear the watch regularly. Daily wear for at least 8-10 hours is usually sufficient to keep the watch wound.
- Inactivity: If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it will stop. Simply re-wind it manually as described in the "Initial Winding" section and reset the time and date.
Maintenance
Cleaning
To maintain the appearance of your watch:
- Wipe the case and metal bracelet regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
- For more thorough cleaning, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the watch's finish and seals.
Water Resistance
Your Rado R12413463 watch has a water resistance rating of 30 meters (3 bar). This rating indicates that the watch is suitable for everyday use and can withstand splashes or brief immersion in water, such as washing hands or rain.
Important Precautions:- Do not operate the crown or pushers while the watch is wet or submerged in water.
- Avoid exposing the watch to hot water, steam, or extreme temperature changes, as this can compromise the water-resistant seals.
- This watch is not suitable for swimming, diving, or showering.
- Have the water resistance seals checked periodically by an authorized service center, especially after several years of use.
Service
For optimal performance, it is recommended to have your automatic watch serviced by an authorized Rado service center every 3-5 years. Regular servicing ensures the movement remains lubricated and accurate.
Troubleshooting
- Watch has stopped:
Solution: Manually wind the watch by turning the crown clockwise 30-40 times. If the watch still does not start, it may require professional servicing.
- Time is inaccurate:
Solution: Ensure the watch is sufficiently wound by wearing it regularly or manually winding it. If inaccuracy persists, the movement may need adjustment by an authorized service center.
- Date/Day not changing correctly:
Solution: Check if the date/day was set during the restricted period (9 PM - 3 AM). Reset the date/day outside this period. If the issue continues, professional inspection is advised.
