Setup
Your Faber-Castell Grip Plus Mechanical Pencil comes ready for use with a B grade lead pre-fitted. To ensure optimal performance, follow these steps for initial setup and lead replenishment.
Loading Leads
- Remove the Eraser: Gently pull the white eraser from the top of the pencil barrel. This will reveal the lead reservoir opening.
- Insert Leads: Carefully insert 0.7mm HB super-polymer leads into the opening. It is recommended to insert 2-3 leads at a time to prevent jamming and ensure smooth operation.
- Replace Eraser: Push the eraser back into its position firmly until it is secure.
Checking Eraser
The pencil includes a replaceable, extra-long, smudge-free twist-up eraser. Ensure the eraser is securely seated before use. To expose more eraser, twist the top mechanism of the pencil.
Operating Instructions
The Faber-Castell Grip Plus Mechanical Pencil is designed for comfortable and precise writing and drafting.
Writing and Advancing Lead
- Grip: Hold the pencil comfortably using its non-slip triangular rubber grip. This ergonomic design reduces hand fatigue during extended use.
- Advance Lead: Press the top button of the pencil to advance the lead. Each press will extend the lead by a small increment. Release the button to lock the lead in place.
- Writing: Apply light to moderate pressure while writing. The 0.7mm HB super-polymer leads are designed to be break-resistant and produce deep, dark, intense lines.
Using the Eraser
- Expose Eraser: Twist the top part of the pencil barrel to extend the eraser.
- Erase: Use the extended eraser to correct mistakes. The smudge-free eraser is effective for precision erasing of smaller details or tough marks with minimal pressure.
- Retract Eraser: Twist the top part of the pencil barrel in the opposite direction to retract the eraser when not in use.

Maintenance
Proper maintenance will extend the life and performance of your mechanical pencil.
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe the exterior of the pencil with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust or smudges. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Lead Storage: Store extra leads in their original container to protect them from breakage and dust.
- Eraser Replacement: When the eraser wears down, replace it with a new Faber-Castell eraser refill (included in this set). Simply pull out the old eraser and insert a new one.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your mechanical pencil, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Lead breaks frequently. | Excessive pressure; too much lead extended; incorrect lead size. | Reduce writing pressure. Extend only a small amount of lead. Ensure you are using 0.7mm leads. |
| Lead does not advance. | Lead jam; empty lead reservoir; incorrect lead size. | Remove the eraser and gently shake out any broken lead pieces. Insert new leads if reservoir is empty. Verify lead size is 0.7mm. |
| Eraser does not extend/retract smoothly. | Dust or debris in mechanism; worn-out eraser. | Gently clean around the eraser mechanism. Replace the eraser if it is worn or damaged. |
