1. Introduction

The Spektrum Smart ESC Programming Update Box (SPMXCA200) is designed to facilitate the setup, review, adjustment, and saving of operating parameters for your Avian and Firma electronic speed controls (ESCs). This device also allows for firmware updates via a PC using the Spektrum SmartLink app and can check the balance of your LiPo battery cells.

4. Setup

4.1. Device Overview

4.2. Connecting to an ESC

  1. Ensure your RC vehicle is powered off.
  2. Locate the fan port on your Spektrum Smart ESC (Avian or Firma).
  3. Disconnect the fan cable from the ESC's fan port, if applicable.
  4. Connect the provided lead cable from the programmer to the ESC's fan port.
  5. Power on your RC vehicle. The programmer will automatically power on and display information from the ESC.

4.3. Connecting to a PC for Firmware Updates

  1. Connect the programmer to your PC using the included USB cable.
  2. Download and install the Spektrum SmartLink PC app from the official Spektrum website.
  3. Launch the SmartLink app. The app will detect the connected programmer and allow you to check for and apply firmware updates for both the programmer and the connected ESC.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Adjusting ESC Parameters

Once connected to an ESC and powered on, the programmer's display will show the current settings. Use the buttons to navigate and adjust parameters:

  • SELECT: Use to navigate through different parameters.
  • EDIT: Press to enter edit mode for a selected parameter. Use SELECT to change values.
  • RESET: Resets the currently selected parameter to its default value.
  • SAVE: Crucially, press SAVE after each individual parameter adjustment to ensure the changes are applied to the ESC. If you do not save, the changes will be lost when the device is disconnected or reset.

5.2. Checking LiPo Battery Cell Balance

The programming box also functions as a LiPo battery checker. Connect your LiPo battery's balance lead to the designated BATT port on the side of the programmer. The display will show the voltage of each cell, allowing you to monitor the battery's health and balance.

6. Maintenance

  • Keep the device clean and free from dust and moisture. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Store the programmer in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Regularly check for firmware updates using the Spektrum SmartLink PC app to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with the latest ESCs.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Programmer not powering on: Ensure the programmer is correctly connected to a powered-on ESC or a PC via USB.
  • Settings not saving: Always press the 'SAVE' button after making any adjustments to a parameter. Changes are not automatically saved.
  • ESC not connecting/displaying incorrect information: Verify that both the programmer and the ESC have the latest firmware. Connect the programmer to a PC and use the Spektrum SmartLink app to update both devices. Ensure the connection cable between the programmer and ESC is secure and correctly inserted into the fan port.
  • Display issues: If the display is blank or unreadable, try disconnecting and reconnecting the power source. If the issue persists, check for firmware updates.
