Setup

Battery Installation and Charging

The CRAFTSMAN V20 Drill/Driver operates on a 20-volt Lithium Ion battery. Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use. The kit includes a 2.0-Amp Hour Lithium Ion Battery (CMCB202) and a compatible charger.

  • To install the battery, align the battery pack with the base of the drill handle and slide it in until it clicks securely into place.
  • To remove the battery, press the release tabs on the sides of the battery pack and slide it out.
  • Connect the charger to a standard power outlet. Insert the battery pack into the charger. The indicator light on the charger will show the charging status.
  • Allow the battery to charge completely before use. Refer to the charger's specific instructions for charging times and indicator light meanings.

Operating Instructions

Speed Settings

The drill/driver features a 2-speed gearbox, allowing you to select the appropriate speed for different applications:

  • Speed 1 (Low Speed): Ideal for high-torque applications such as driving large fasteners or drilling large holes. Provides speeds of 0-350 RPM.
  • Speed 2 (High Speed): Suitable for faster drilling and driving smaller fasteners. Provides speeds of 0-1,500 RPM.

To change the speed, use the slider switch located on the top of the drill. Slide it to '1' for low speed or '2' for high speed.

Variable Speed Trigger

The drill/driver is equipped with a variable speed trigger. The speed of the drill is controlled by the amount of pressure applied to the trigger. Pressing the trigger lightly will result in a slower speed, while pressing it fully will achieve maximum speed.

LED Work Light

An integrated LED light illuminates the work area when the trigger is pressed. This light remains on for a short period after the trigger is released, providing continued visibility in dimly lit spaces.

Forward/Reverse Selector

A selector switch located above the trigger allows you to change the direction of rotation. Push the switch to the left for forward rotation (drilling/driving) and to the right for reverse rotation (removing screws). Center the switch to lock the trigger and prevent accidental operation.

Chuck Adjustment and Bit Installation/Removal

The 1/2-inch keyless chuck allows for quick and easy bit changes. To install a bit, rotate the chuck collar counter-clockwise to open the jaws. Insert the bit fully and then rotate the chuck collar clockwise to tighten the jaws securely around the bit. To remove a bit, rotate the chuck collar counter-clockwise until the jaws open sufficiently.

The drill also features an adjustable clutch with multiple torque settings (1-17) and a drill mode. Rotate the collar behind the chuck to select the desired torque setting for driving screws, or select the drill icon for drilling applications. Higher numbers indicate higher torque.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your CRAFTSMAN V20 Drill/Driver.

  • Cleaning: Keep the tool's ventilation openings clear and free of debris. Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Battery Care: Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Do not store batteries in a discharged state for extended periods.
  • Chuck Maintenance: Periodically clean the chuck jaws to ensure proper gripping of bits.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the power cord (if applicable for charger), switch, and housing for any damage. If damage is found, have the tool serviced by a qualified professional.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your drill/driver, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:
