2. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance and safety of your PID temperature controller. Ensure all connections are secure and follow local electrical codes.

2.1 Components Overview

The package includes the PID temperature controller unit, a 25A Solid State Relay (SSR), and a K-type thermocouple sensor.

2.2 Mounting Dimensions

The controller is designed for DIN 1/16 panel mounting. The cutting size required for installation is approximately 48mm x 48mm x 80mm (1.89 inches x 1.89 inches x 3.15 inches). Precision in cutting the mounting hole is essential for a secure fit.

2.3 Wiring Instructions

The controller operates on a power supply of 90-265V AC/DC. The 25A SSR is included for controlling high current loads. Refer to the wiring diagram on the side of the unit for correct connections of power, sensor input, and output to the SSR.

3. Operating Instructions

The PID temperature controller features a dual LED display, showing both the Process Value (PV) and Set Value (SV). It supports temperature readings in both Fahrenheit (F) and Celsius (C).

3.1 Display and Controls

The front panel includes buttons for 'SET', 'K/AT' (Auto-tuning), and arrow keys for navigation and value adjustment. The display shows the current temperature (PV) and the target temperature (SV).

3.2 Setting Temperature

Press the 'SET' button to enter the setting mode. Use the arrow keys to adjust the Set Value (SV) to your desired temperature. Press 'SET' again to confirm and exit the setting mode.

3.3 Auto-Tuning (AT) Function

The controller features a built-in auto-tuning function to optimize PID parameters for your specific application, ensuring stable and accurate temperature control. To initiate auto-tuning, set your desired temperature (SV), then press and hold the 'K/AT' button for a few seconds until the 'AT' indicator light illuminates. The controller will cycle through a tuning process, which may cause temperature fluctuations. Once complete, the 'AT' light will turn off, and the optimized PID parameters will be saved.

3.4 Alarm Output

The unit includes one relay alarm output with 7 different alarm modes (e.g., high/low, deviation, interval). These can be configured to alert you to specific temperature conditions.

4. Maintenance

The Jaybva PID Temperature Controller is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance. Keep the unit clean and free from dust and moisture. Periodically check all wiring connections to ensure they remain secure. Avoid exposing the controller to extreme temperatures or corrosive environments.

If the unit is installed in a dusty environment, gently clean the vents to ensure proper airflow and prevent overheating. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents on the display or casing.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your PID temperature controller, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips. For complex problems, it is recommended to consult the detailed PDF user manual or contact customer support.

  • No Power/Display Off: Check the power supply connections (90-265V AC/DC) and ensure the unit is receiving power. Verify fuses if applicable.
  • Incorrect Temperature Reading: Ensure the K-type thermocouple is correctly connected to the input terminals and is not damaged. Verify that the input type setting in the controller matches the connected sensor (e.g., K-type).
  • Temperature Not Reaching Set Point: Check the wiring to the SSR and the heating/cooling element. Ensure the SSR is functioning correctly. Verify that the PID parameters are appropriate for your system; consider running the auto-tuning function again.
  • Unstable Temperature Control: This often indicates that the PID parameters are not optimally tuned. Run the auto-tuning (AT) function to allow the controller to calculate the best parameters for your specific load.
  • Alarm Not Triggering: Check the alarm settings and ensure the alarm mode and set points are configured correctly. Verify the alarm relay connections.

While the instructions aim to be comprehensive, some advanced settings may require a deeper understanding of PID control theory. Refer to the full user manual for detailed parameter explanations.
