1. Introduction
The LOMVUM LW10 Wall Detector is a versatile 4-in-1 electronic stud sensor designed to accurately locate various objects hidden behind walls, ceilings, and floors. This device is essential for safely performing tasks such as hanging pictures, mounting TVs, or installing shelves, by identifying the presence of wood studs, metal objects (ferrous and non-ferrous), and live AC wires.
Its advanced detection capabilities and clear LCD display make it an indispensable tool for DIY enthusiasts, contractors, electricians, and plumbers.
2. Safety Precautions
Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the device. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Always assume that live electrical wires are present in the wall. Exercise extreme caution when drilling, cutting, or nailing into walls, ceilings, or floors.
- Do not rely solely on the detector to locate live wires. Always turn off the power to the area you are working on at the circuit breaker before drilling or cutting.
- Keep the device dry and clean. Do not expose it to moisture or extreme temperatures.
- Do not attempt to open or modify the device. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
- Dispose of batteries properly according to local regulations.

- 9V Battery Compartment: Located on the back for battery insertion.
- Anti-wall scratching pads: Soft pads to prevent damage to wall surfaces during scanning.
5. Setup
5.1 Battery Installation
The LOMVUM LW10 Wall Detector requires one 9V alkaline battery (included). Follow these steps to install the battery:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Slide the cover downwards to open the compartment.
- Connect the 9V battery to the battery clip, ensuring correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
- Place the battery into the compartment.
- Slide the cover back into place until it clicks securely.
The device will automatically power off after 5 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life.
6. Operation Guide
6.1 Powering On/Off
Press the Power Button (circular button with power symbol) once to turn the device on. The LCD display will light up. To turn off the device, press and hold the Power Button for a few seconds, or it will automatically shut off after 5 minutes of no activity.
6.2 Mode Selection and Calibration
The LOMVUM LW10 offers multiple detection modes. Select the appropriate mode based on what you intend to detect:
- Wood Stud Detection: Press the "Foreign Object Detection" Button (button with wavy lines) to enter wood detection mode.
- Metal/AC Wire Detection: Press the "Detect Metal or Cable Button" (button with lightning bolt and metal symbol) to enter metal and AC wire detection mode.
Calibration: For accurate results, it is crucial to calibrate the device before each scan. Place the detector flat against the wall surface where you intend to start scanning, ensuring no objects are directly beneath it. Press and hold the selected mode button until the calibration process is complete (usually indicated by a beep or a stable reading on the display). Release the button and begin scanning.
6.3 Scanning Procedure
Once calibrated, slowly slide the detector horizontally across the wall surface. Keep the device flat against the wall and avoid tilting or lifting it during the scan.

Figure 6.1: Illustration of the detector scanning for metal pipes, wooden beams, and AC live wires, showing how the display changes as an object is approached and located.
6.4 Interpreting Readings
The LCD display and indicator lights provide real-time feedback:
- LCD Display: Shows the detection mode, signal strength, approximate depth (in cm), battery level, and a "Center" indicator to help pinpoint the exact location of the object. The percentage bar indicates proximity to the object.
- Indicator Lights:
- Green Light: No object detected.
- Yellow Light: Object detected nearby.
- Red Light: Object detected directly beneath the sensor.

Figure 6.2: Visual representation of the wooden detection process, illustrating how the signal strength and indicator lights change from green (0-30% signal) to yellow (31-99% signal) to red (16-100% signal) as a wooden stud is approached and centered.
6.5 Maximum Detection Depth
The LOMVUM LW10 Wall Detector can detect objects at various depths depending on the material:
- Ferrous Metals: Up to 120 mm (4.73 inches)
- Non-Ferrous Metals (Copper): Up to 100 mm (3.94 inches)
- Live AC Wires: Up to 50 mm (1.97 inches)
- Wood Studs: Up to 20 mm (0.79 inches)

7. Maintenance and Care
- Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the detector in its carrying bag in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove the battery if the device will not be used for an extended period.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V battery when the low battery indicator appears on the display to ensure optimal performance.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Inaccurate readings / inconsistent detection | Improper calibration; device lifted or tilted during scan; presence of moisture in wall; thick or irregular wall material. | Recalibrate the device by placing it flat on the wall before scanning. Ensure smooth, consistent movement. Avoid scanning over recently painted or damp areas. Try scanning from multiple directions. |
| Device does not turn on | Dead or improperly installed battery. | Check battery polarity. Replace with a new 9V alkaline battery. |
| No detection in AC mode | Wires are not live; wires are too deep; interference from other objects. | Ensure the circuit is live. Scan slowly and repeatedly. Note that AC detection is for live, unshielded wires. |
| Display is dim or flickering | Low battery. | Replace the 9V battery. |
