3. Setup
3.1 Powering the Main Unit
The main unit can be powered either by the included power adapter or by 3 x AAA batteries (not included). For continuous display illumination, it is recommended to use the power adapter. If using batteries, the display illumination will only be active for a few seconds after a button press to conserve power.
- Connect the power adapter to the DC 5V port on the back of the main unit and plug it into a wall outlet.
- Alternatively, open the battery compartment on the back of the main unit and insert 3 x AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-).

Figure 3.1: This image shows the rear view of the Bearware weather station, highlighting the battery compartment and the kickstand. The DC 5V power input port is also visible, indicating options for power supply.
3.2 Setting Up the External Sensor
The external sensor requires 2 x AAA batteries (not included). Ensure the batteries are inserted correctly.
- Open the battery compartment on the external sensor and insert 2 x AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity.
- Place the external sensor in your desired outdoor location, ensuring it is protected from direct sunlight and rain for accurate readings.
- Important: Position the sensor away from metallic objects and electronic devices (e.g., TVs, PCs) to avoid interference. The maximum effective range between the sensor and the main unit is 30 meters (approximately 98 feet).
- The main unit will automatically attempt to connect to the external sensor. If connection is not established, press the "CHANNEL" button on the main unit to search for the sensor.
3.3 Initial Configuration (Time, Date, Altitude Compensation)
Upon first power-up, the weather station will attempt to receive the DCF radio signal for automatic time and date synchronization. This process may take some time, especially in areas with weak signals. You may need to wait until night for better signal reception.
- Manual Time/Date Setting: If the DCF signal is not received, or if you prefer manual setting, press and hold the "MODE" button to enter setup mode. Use the "UP" and "DOWN" buttons to adjust values and "MODE" to confirm and move to the next setting.
- Altitude Compensation: For accurate barometric pressure forecasts, it is crucial to set the local altitude.
- Find your local altitude (e.g., from online weather portals or maps).
- Enter the setup mode (press and hold "MODE"). Navigate through the settings until you reach the altitude compensation setting.
- Adjust the altitude value using the "UP" and "DOWN" buttons. This compensates for the decrease in air pressure with increasing altitude, providing more precise weather forecasts.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Display Functions
The color display provides a comprehensive overview of various meteorological data:
- Time and Date: Displays current time (12/24h format) and date, synchronized via DCF signal.
- Indoor Temperature/Humidity: Current readings from the main unit's internal sensor.
- Outdoor Temperature/Humidity: Current readings from the external sensor.
- Weather Forecast: Indicated by pictograms (e.g., sunny, cloudy, rainy).
- Barometric Pressure: Shows current pressure and a 5-stage history for the last 12 hours.
- Moon Phases: Displays the current phase of the moon.
- Trend Indicators: Arrows next to temperature and humidity indicate rising, falling, or stable trends.
4.2 Button Functions
- MODE: Press to cycle through display modes (e.g., alarm settings). Press and hold to enter setup mode.
- MAX/MIN: Press to view maximum and minimum recorded temperature and humidity values. Press and hold to clear recorded values.
- CHANNEL: Press to switch between connected external sensors (if multiple are used). Press and hold to search for external sensors.
- UP / DOWN: Used to adjust values in setup mode or to change settings.
- SNOOZE / Brightness (Touch on top): Touch the top of the unit to activate snooze during an alarm or to cycle through the 3 display brightness levels.
4.3 Alarm Functions
- Setting Alarms: The unit features two independent alarms. In setup mode, navigate to alarm settings to set desired times.
- Frost Alarm: An integrated frost alarm will activate when outdoor temperatures approach freezing.
- Heat Alarm: An integrated heat alarm will activate when temperatures exceed a certain threshold.
- Snooze: When an alarm sounds, touch the top of the unit to activate the snooze function.
5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the main unit and external sensor with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries in both the main unit and external sensor when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Ensure correct polarity.
- Sensor Placement: Periodically check the external sensor's placement to ensure it remains protected from extreme weather conditions and is within effective range of the main unit.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No display / Display dim | Batteries low or incorrectly inserted; Power adapter not connected or faulty. | Replace batteries; Ensure power adapter is securely connected. Remember, continuous illumination requires the power adapter. |
| External sensor not connecting | Sensor out of range; Batteries low in sensor; Interference from other electronics; Incorrect channel. | Move sensor closer to main unit (within 30m); Replace sensor batteries; Relocate sensor away from interference sources; Press "CHANNEL" button on main unit to re-establish connection. |
| Inaccurate weather forecast | Altitude compensation not set or incorrect. | Ensure correct local altitude is set in the unit's settings. |
| Time not synchronizing (DCF) | Weak DCF signal; Interference. | Place the unit near a window or in an open area. Allow time for synchronization, especially overnight. Avoid placing near large metal objects or electronics. |
