WECO FILTERS CLARA-200

WECO Clara CLARA-200 Light Commercial Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System User Manual

1. Product Overview

The WECO Clara CLARA-200 is a light commercial reverse osmosis (RO) water filtration system designed to purify drinking water by removing various contaminants. This system is suitable for applications such as kitchens, medical offices, laboratories, schools, aquariums, and hydroponic growing operations.

The CLARA-200 system provides a production capacity of 200 gallons per day (GPD) at 77°F. It effectively reduces contaminants including lead, sodium, mercury, nitrate, chlorine, chloramine, chromium, and total dissolved solids (TDS).

Key features include:

  • Light commercial reverse osmosis (RO) system with 200 GPD production capacity.
  • Reduces a wide range of contaminants including heavy metals, salts, and chemicals.
  • Features a fixed drain flow restrictor with flush valve for optimal membrane life.
  • Utilizes standard dual 1812 membranes.
  • Operates with line water pressure; an optional pressure booster pump is available.
  • Includes a pressure gauge for pre-filter pressure monitoring.
  • Designed for floor or wall mounting with a space-saving footprint.

2. Setup and Installation

The WECO Clara CLARA-200 system comes pre-assembled for ease of installation. It can be mounted on the floor or wall, depending on space availability and preference.

2.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect the system for any visible damage that may have occurred during transit. Ensure all included components are present: the main filter unit, drain flow restrictor with flush valve, and pressure gauge.

2.2 System Dimensions

Consider the following dimensions for proper placement and installation:

Figure 1: Dimensions of the WECO Clara CLARA-200 system. The system measures approximately 20 inches in length, 10 inches in width, and 30 inches in height.

2.3 Plumbing Connections

The system operates using standard line water pressure. Connect the water inlet to your cold water supply. Install the drain flow restrictor with flush valve as per the included diagram (refer to separate installation guide for detailed plumbing schematics). Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free. An optional pressure booster pump can be integrated for applications requiring higher feed pressure.

3. Operation

The CLARA-200 system employs a multi-stage filtration process to produce purified water.

3.1 Filtration Process

  1. Pre-filtration: Water first passes through filters designed to remove larger particles such as rust, silt, and insect parts. This stage protects subsequent filters from premature clogging.
  2. Carbon Filtration: Following pre-filtration, water flows through two activated carbon block cartridges. These filters are effective at removing taste and odor-causing chemicals like chlorine and chloramine, as well as organic contaminants such as herbicides, insecticides, and industrial chemicals. They also address chlorine disinfection byproducts (THMs).
  3. Reverse Osmosis (RO): The final stage involves the reverse osmosis membrane. Water is forced through this semi-permeable membrane, which separates purified water from dissolved solids and contaminants. Heavy metals (e.g., lead, mercury), salts, fluoride, radon, and benzene are rejected by the membrane.

3.2 System Monitoring

The integrated pressure gauge allows for monitoring of pre-filter pressure, which is crucial for assessing filter performance and identifying potential issues. The fixed drain flow restrictor with flush valve helps maintain optimal conditions for the RO membranes.

Note: The actual water production capacity (200 GPD) is variable and depends on factors such as water temperature, total dissolved solids (TDS) in the feed water, and incoming feed pressure.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your WECO Clara CLARA-200 system.

4.1 Filter Replacement

The pre-filters and carbon block cartridges have a finite lifespan and must be replaced periodically. The frequency of replacement depends on the quality of your incoming water and the volume of water processed. Monitor the pressure gauge; a significant drop in pressure may indicate clogged pre-filters. Refer to the specific filter replacement schedule provided by WECO FILTERS or consult the product documentation for recommended intervals.

4.2 RO Membrane Care

The fixed drain flow restrictor with flush valve is designed to help maintain the efficiency and lifespan of the RO membranes by regularly flushing accumulated contaminants. However, RO membranes will eventually require replacement. Signs of a failing membrane include a significant decrease in purified water production or an increase in the TDS level of the purified water.

4.3 General Cleaning

Keep the exterior of the system clean using a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

5. Troubleshooting

This section provides general guidance for common issues. For more complex problems, contact customer support.

  • Low Water Production: Check feed water pressure. Ensure pre-filters and carbon filters are not clogged (indicated by low pressure on the gauge). The RO membrane may also require replacement if it is old or fouled.
  • Poor Water Quality (High TDS): This typically indicates a compromised RO membrane. Test the TDS of the purified water and compare it to the feed water. If the rejection rate is low, the RO membrane likely needs replacement.
  • Leaks: Turn off the water supply immediately. Inspect all connections and fittings for proper sealing. Tighten any loose connections. If a component is cracked or damaged, it must be replaced.
  • Unusual Noises: Ensure the system is securely mounted. If an optional booster pump is installed, check its operation.
