1. Introduction

2. Setup and Assembly

Follow these steps to assemble and prepare your Rowenta IS8440 Garment Steamer for first use.

2.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure all parts are present:

• Steamer base unit with water tank
• Telescopic pole
• Steam & Press vertical support screen
• Steam head with hose
• Fabric brush attachment
• Steam bonnet attachment
• Crease attachment

2.2 Assembling the Unit

1. Insert the telescopic pole into the designated slot on the steamer base unit. Secure it firmly.
2. Attach the Steam & Press vertical support screen to the top of the telescopic pole. Ensure it is securely locked into place.
3. Connect the steam hose to the steam outlet on the base unit.
4. Place the steam head onto the hanger at the top of the vertical support screen.

2.3 Filling the Water Tank

1. Remove the removable water tank from the base unit.
2. Open the water tank cap and fill with distilled or demineralized water up to the 'MAX' line. Do not use tap water, as it can lead to mineral buildup.
3. Close the cap securely and reinsert the water tank into the base unit until it clicks into place.

3.1 Powering On and Heating Up

1. Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.
2. Press the power button on the base unit. The indicator light will flash during the 45-second heat-up period.
3. Once the light stops flashing and remains solid, the steamer is ready for use.

3.2 Adjusting Steam Settings

The steam head features controls to adjust the steam output. Select one of the 4 available settings based on your fabric type:

• Low Steam: For delicate fabrics like silk and synthetics.
• Medium Steam: For general garments like shirts and blouses.
• High Steam: For heavier fabrics like cotton and linen.
• Max Steam: For very thick fabrics or stubborn wrinkles.

3.3 Steaming Garments

1. Hang your garment on a hanger and place it on the integrated hanger of the vertical support system.
2. Gently press the garment against the Steam & Press screen to create a flat surface for steaming.
3. Hold the steam head close to the fabric and move it in a downward motion, allowing the steam to penetrate and relax the fibers.
4. For stubborn wrinkles, use the fabric brush attachment to gently comb the fabric while steaming.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your steamer.

4.1 Draining the Water Tank

After each use, or when storing the steamer, empty any remaining water from the tank to prevent mineral buildup and odors.

4.2 Anti-Calc Function

The steamer is equipped with an anti-calc system. When the 'ANTI-CALC' indicator light illuminates, it's time to perform a descaling cycle. Refer to the full product manual for detailed descaling instructions.

4.3 Cleaning Attachments

Clean the fabric brush, steam bonnet, and crease attachment regularly with a damp cloth. Ensure they are dry before reattaching or storing.

• No Steam: Check if the water tank is filled and correctly inserted. Ensure the steamer is plugged in and powered on, and has completed its heat-up cycle.
• Water Leaking: Ensure the water tank cap is securely closed and the tank is properly seated in the base. Use distilled or demineralized water to prevent mineral buildup that can cause leaks.
• Steam Head Spitting Water: This can occur if the steamer is not fully heated or if there is mineral buildup. Allow the steamer to fully heat up. If the problem persists, perform a descaling cycle.
• Steamer Not Heating: Verify the power connection and ensure the power button is pressed. If the issue continues, contact customer support.
