7. Understanding Measurements
The Kill A Watt EZ provides several key electrical measurements:
- Voltage (Volt): The electrical potential difference, typically around 115-120V in North America.
- Current (Amp): The rate of flow of electrical charge. Higher current indicates more power draw.
- Watts (Watt): The actual power consumed by the appliance at any given moment. This is the real power doing work.
- Kilowatt Hours (KWH): The total amount of energy consumed over time. This is what your electricity bill is based on (1 KWH = 1000 Watts for 1 hour).
- Frequency (Hz): The rate at which the current changes direction per second, typically 60 Hz in North America.
- Volt Amps (VA): The apparent power, which is the product of voltage and current. This can be higher than Watts for inductive loads.
- Power Factor (PF): The ratio of real power (Watts) to apparent power (VA). A power factor closer to 1 indicates more efficient use of electricity.
- Elapsed Time: The total time the Kill A Watt EZ has been monitoring the appliance since the last reset.
8. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: When not in use, store the Kill A Watt EZ in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Battery Backup: The unit has a built-in battery backup to retain data during power outages or when unplugged. This battery is not user-replaceable.
9. Troubleshooting
