Operating Instructions
1. Casting with the Push Button Design
- Hold the rod and reel comfortably.
- Press and hold the push button located on the rear of the reel. This disengages the line pickup.
- Swing the rod forward in a smooth motion, releasing the push button at the peak of your forward cast to allow the line to fly freely.
- As soon as your lure hits the water, begin to turn the handle to re-engage the line pickup and prepare for retrieval.

2. Line Retrieval
To retrieve your line, simply turn the handle in the appropriate direction (clockwise for right-hand retrieve, counter-clockwise for left-hand retrieve). The 4.0:1 high-speed gear ratio ensures efficient line pickup.
3. Adjusting the Drag
The drag system controls the amount of resistance the line experiences when a fish pulls on it, preventing line breakage. Your Brutus reel offers 11 lbs of smooth drag.
- Locate the drag adjustment knob, typically found on the top or side of the reel.
- Turn the knob clockwise to increase drag tension (more resistance).
- Turn the knob counter-clockwise to decrease drag tension (less resistance).
- Adjust the drag setting based on the line strength and the size of the fish you are targeting. A good starting point is to set the drag to about one-third of your line's breaking strength.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance will extend the life and performance of your KastKing Brutus Spincast Reel.
- Cleaning: After each use, especially in saltwater, rinse the reel with fresh water. Wipe it dry with a soft cloth.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of reel oil to moving parts and grease to gears. Refer to the exploded diagram for component locations.
- Line Replacement: Replace your fishing line regularly, especially if it shows signs of wear, fraying, or memory.
- Storage: Store your reel in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
- Line Twist: If you experience excessive line twist, remove all line from the reel and re-spool it carefully, ensuring the line comes off the filler spool in the same direction it goes onto the reel spool.
- Loose Handle: If the handle feels loose even when tightened, ensure the handle retainer cap is fully secured. If the issue persists, inspect the handle assembly for any worn or damaged components.
- Line Catching/Sticking During Cast: This can sometimes be caused by the spool being slightly out of alignment. If cleaning and re-spooling the line does not resolve the issue, professional inspection may be required.
