Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of your Bryant Electric RCT220BR 20A 125V Tamper Resistant Countertop Pop-Up Receptacle. This device is designed to provide convenient power access in kitchen and bath countertops, as well as work surfaces and seating areas, while meeting UL and NEC safety standards for countertop applications.

Installation (Setup)

Important: Ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker before proceeding with installation.

1. Prepare the Countertop:

   A circular hole must be cut into the countertop. Refer to the product's packaging or manufacturer's template for the exact diameter required. Ensure adequate clearance below the countertop for the receptacle body and wiring connections. The compact design minimizes space required in the cabinet area.

2. Insert the Receptacle:

   Carefully drop the pop-up receptacle into the prepared hole in the countertop. Ensure the top flange sits flush with the countertop surface.

3. Secure the Unit:

   From underneath the countertop, thread the large plastic locking nut onto the body of the receptacle and tighten it firmly by hand. This secures the unit to the countertop. Do not overtighten.
4. Wiring Connections:

   The RCT220BR is designed for permanent installation and is suitable for use with MC cable or non-metallic sheath cable. Follow standard electrical wiring practices:

   • Connect the black (hot) wire to the brass terminal screw.
   • Connect the white (neutral) wire to the silver terminal screw.
   • Connect the green or bare copper (ground) wire to the green ground screw.
   • Ensure all connections are tight and secure. Use the provided cable clamp to secure the incoming cable to the receptacle housing.

5. Restore Power:

   Once all connections are made and the unit is secured, restore power at the circuit breaker. Test the receptacle for proper operation.

Operation

The Bryant Electric RCT220BR features a simple push-to-pop-up mechanism for easy access to power when needed, and discreet storage when not in use.

1. To Open the Receptacle:

   With the unit in the closed position (flush with the countertop), firmly press down on the center of the brushed brass top. The receptacle unit will slowly pop up, revealing the two tamper-resistant outlets.

2. To Close the Receptacle:

   When not in use, gently push down on the top of the receptacle until it clicks and locks into the flush position. This protects the outlets and maintains a clean countertop appearance.

3. Using the Outlets:

   The unit features two 20A 125V tamper-resistant receptacles. These outlets have internal shutters that prevent the insertion of single objects, enhancing safety. Apply slight, even pressure when inserting a plug into the outlets.

Maintenance

The Bryant Electric RCT220BR is designed for durability and minimal maintenance. Regular cleaning and adherence to safety guidelines will ensure long-lasting performance.

• Cleaning:

  To clean the exterior of the receptacle, wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish or internal components. Ensure the unit is closed and unplugged from any devices before cleaning.

• Water Resistance:

  The unit is tested and water resistant to a half-gallon spill, thanks to its silicone gaskets. In the event of a spill, wipe away liquids promptly. While resistant, it is not waterproof and should not be submerged.

• Mechanism Longevity:

  The push-down to pop-up function is rated for a minimum of 10,000 cycles (open/close), ensuring reliable operation over time.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your pop-up receptacle, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

• No Power to Outlets:
  • Check the circuit breaker: Ensure the circuit breaker supplying power to the receptacle is in the "ON" position. If it has tripped, reset it.
  • Check GFCI protection: If the circuit is protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlet or breaker, check if it has tripped and reset it.
  • Verify wiring connections: With power OFF at the breaker, inspect the wiring connections at the receptacle to ensure they are secure.
• Receptacle Not Popping Up/Down Smoothly:
  • Check for obstructions: Ensure there are no objects preventing the mechanism from moving freely.
  • Clean the mechanism: Dust or debris might accumulate around the moving parts. Gently clean the area around the pop-up mechanism with a soft, dry cloth. Do not apply lubricants.
• Plug Difficult to Insert:

  The outlets are tamper-resistant (TR), meaning they have internal shutters for safety. This can make plugs feel slightly tighter. Ensure you are inserting the plug straight and with firm, even pressure. Do not force the plug.
