5. Setup
5.1 Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the walkie talkie.
- Press down on the clip and slide the cover downwards to open.
- Insert 4 AAA batteries into the compartment, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside.
- Slide the battery cover back into place until it clicks securely.
5.2 Attaching the Lanyard
Thread the provided lanyard (ribbon) through the small loop located at the top of the walkie talkie, near the antenna. Secure it with a knot to prevent accidental detachment.
6. Operation
6.1 Power On/Off
- To turn on: Press and hold the Power button (
) until the LCD screen illuminates. - To turn off: Press and hold the Power button until the LCD screen turns off.
6.2 Channel Selection
Your walkie talkies have 22 available channels. To select a channel:
- Press the MENU button once. The current channel number will flash on the LCD screen.
- Use the Up (
) or Down (
) arrow buttons to select your desired channel (1-22). - Press the TALK button or MENU button again to confirm your selection. Ensure all walkie talkies are on the same channel to communicate.
6.3 Talking (Push-to-Talk)
To transmit your voice:
- Press and hold the TALK button located on the front of the walkie talkie.
- Speak clearly into the microphone (located near the top of the unit).
- Release the TALK button when you are finished speaking to allow the other party to respond.

6.4 Monitoring (MON)
To listen for weak signals or to check for activity on a channel without transmitting:
- Press and hold the MON button. This will temporarily disable the squelch function.
- Release the MON button to re-enable squelch.
6.5 Call Alert
To send an audible call tone to other walkie talkies on the same channel:
- Briefly press the Call button (often indicated by a musical note icon
).
6.6 Built-in Flashlight
To activate the flashlight:
- Press the LAMP button (often indicated by a light bulb icon
) located on the side or front of the unit. - Press it again to turn off the flashlight.
6.7 Keypad Lock
To prevent accidental changes to settings:
- Press and hold the MENU button until a key icon appears on the LCD screen.
- To unlock, press and hold the MENU button again until the key icon disappears.
6.8 VOX (Voice Operated Exchange) Mode
VOX mode allows for hands-free communication. When activated, the walkie talkie will automatically transmit when it detects your voice.
- Press the MENU button multiple times until the VOX icon (often 'VOX') flashes on the screen.
- Use the Up (
