2. Safety Instructions
Always observe basic safety precautions when using electrical appliances to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury.
- Do not use the appliance outdoors or on wet surfaces.
- Do not allow it to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.
- Use only as described in this manual. Use only manufacturer's recommended attachments.
- Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, return it to a service center.
- Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run appliance over cord. Keep cord away from heated surfaces.
- Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
- Do not handle plug or appliance with wet hands.

5. Setup
5.1 Assembling the Vacuum
- Insert the extension tube into the main unit until it clicks securely into place.
- Attach the floor head to the other end of the extension tube, ensuring it is firmly connected.
- For handheld use, detach the extension tube and floor head, and directly attach desired accessories (crevice tool, pet brush) to the main unit.
5.2 Installing the Battery
To install the battery pack:
- Insert battery (4) into tool until an audible click is heard as shown in Figure B.
- Ensure battery pack is fully seated and fully latched into position.

5.3 Wall Mounting (Optional)
The vacuum can be stored on a wall mount for convenience. Secure the wall mount bracket to a suitable wall using appropriate fasteners (not included). Ensure the bracket is installed at a height that allows the vacuum to hang freely.

6. Charging the Battery
BLACK+DECKER chargers are designed to charge BLACK+DECKER battery packs.
Note: To ensure maximum performance and life of Lithium ion battery packs:
- Charge the battery pack fully before first use.
- Recharge discharged batteries as soon as possible after every use.
- Do not discharge batteries fully.
The supplied charger offers three possible ways to charge your battery:
- Standard cup charging only
- Wall mounted cup charging
- Wall mounted suspended charging
6.1 Standard Cup Charging (Fig. A)
- Plug the charger (5) into a working outlet before inserting the battery pack (4).
- Insert the battery pack into the cup charger.
- When using the the cup charger a green LED will flash indicating that the battery is being charged.
- The completion of charge is indicated by the green LED remaining on continuously. The pack is fully charged and may be used at this time or left on the charger.
- The cup charger can be inserted into the charging station (5a) as shown in figure A.

6.2 Leaving the battery in the charger
The charger and battery pack can be left connected with the green LED glowing indefinitely. The charger will keep the battery pack fresh and fully charged.
Note: The battery includes a state of charge indicator to quickly determine the extent of battery life. By pressing the state of charge button (4a) you can easily view the charge remaining in the battery.
6.3 To remove battery pack
- Depress the battery release button and pull battery pack (4) out of the tool.

7. Operating Instructions
7.1 Powering On/Off and Speed Selection
The vacuum features multiple speed settings for different cleaning needs.
- Press the power button to turn the vacuum on.
- Press the speed selection button to cycle through the 3 available speed settings.
- Press the power button again to turn the vacuum off.

7.2 Cleaning Different Surfaces
The BHFEV362DP-QW is versatile for various cleaning tasks.
- Floor Cleaning: Use the main unit with the extension tube and floor head for hard floors and carpets. The motorized brush and SmartTech technology optimize performance.
- Handheld Cleaning: Detach the main unit for quick clean-ups, stairs, upholstery, and car interiors. Attach the crevice tool for tight spots or the pet brush for animal hair.
- High Reach Cleaning: Use the main unit with the extension tube and a suitable attachment (e.g., crevice tool) to clean high areas like ceilings or curtain rails.

8. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your vacuum cleaner.
8.1 Emptying the Dustbin
Empty the dustbin regularly, especially when the 'SmartTech' filter blockage indicator illuminates.
- Ensure the vacuum is turned off and the battery is removed.
- Press the dustbin release button to detach the dustbin from the main unit.
- Hold the dustbin over a trash receptacle and open the bottom flap to empty contents.
- Close the flap and reattach the dustbin to the main unit until it clicks.

8.2 Cleaning the Filter
The filter should be cleaned regularly to maintain suction power. The vacuum features a scented filter.
- Remove the dustbin as described above.
- Twist and pull out the filter assembly from the dustbin.
- Tap the filter gently over a trash can to remove loose dust. For a more thorough clean, rinse the filter under cold running water.
- Allow the filter to air dry completely for at least 24 hours before reassembling. Do not use heat to dry.
- Reinsert the dry filter assembly into the dustbin and reattach the dustbin to the main unit.

8.3 Cleaning the Motorized Brush Bar
The motorized brush bar features self-detangling technology, but occasional cleaning may still be required.
- Ensure the vacuum is off and the battery is removed.
- Turn the floor head upside down.
- Use scissors or a brush to remove any tangled hair or debris from the brush bar.
- Ensure the brush bar spins freely after cleaning.
