1. Product Overview

The SOCOTRAN T80 is a professional PMR446 license-free two-way radio designed for reliable communication. It features 8 channels, 99 privacy codes, VOX functionality, and a built-in LED flashlight. 3. Setup and Installation

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Ensure the walkie talkie is powered off.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
  3. Slide the cover downwards or unclip it to open.
  4. Insert the 2000 mAh Li-ion battery pack, ensuring the contacts align correctly with the terminals inside the compartment.
  5. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it.

3.2 Charging the Battery

The SOCOTRAN T80 uses a rechargeable Li-ion battery. Charge the battery fully before first use.

  1. Connect the charger adapter to a power outlet.
  2. Connect the charger adapter to the desktop charger.
  3. Place the walkie talkie into the desktop charger, ensuring it sits securely and the charging indicator light illuminates. Alternatively, you can charge the battery alone using the charging buckle on the desktop charger.
  4. A full charge typically takes several hours. The charging indicator will change color or turn off when charging is complete.

3.3 Attaching Accessories

  • Belt Clip: Attach the belt clip to the designated slot on the back of the walkie talkie for convenient carrying.
  • Hand Strap/Lanyard: Thread the hand strap through the loop on the top or side of the walkie talkie to prevent accidental drops.

4.1 Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment

  • To power on, rotate the Power Switch/Volume Adjust knob (7) clockwise until you hear a click.
  • To power off, rotate the knob counter-clockwise until you hear a click.
  • Adjust the volume by rotating the same knob clockwise to increase and counter-clockwise to decrease.

4.2 Channel Selection

  • Press the MENU button (10) to enter the menu.
  • Use the Select Keys (5) (Up/Down arrows) to navigate to the channel setting.
  • Press MENU again to confirm selection, then use the Select Keys to choose one of the 8 available channels.
  • Press MENU to save and exit, or wait for the menu to time out.

4.3 Privacy Codes (CTCSS/DCS)

The T80 supports 99 privacy codes (38 CTCSS and 61 DCS) to minimize interference from other users on the same channel.

  • Press the MENU button (10) to enter the menu.
  • Use the Select Keys (5) to navigate to the CTCSS or DCS setting.
  • Press MENU again, then use the Select Keys to choose the desired privacy code.
  • Press MENU to save and exit. Both radios must be set to the same channel and privacy code to communicate.

4.4 Transmitting and Receiving

  • To transmit, press and hold the PTT Button (2) on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone (12).
  • Release the PTT Button to stop transmitting and listen for a response.
  • The LCD Display (8) will show transmission status.

4.5 VOX Function (Voice Operated Exchange)

VOX allows for hands-free communication. When activated, the radio will transmit automatically when it detects your voice.

  • Press the MENU button (10) to enter the menu.
  • Use the Select Keys (5) to navigate to the VOX setting.
  • Press MENU again, then use the Select Keys to set the VOX sensitivity level (0-3, where 3 is most sensitive).
  • Press MENU to save and exit.

4.6 LED Flashlight

  • Press the Flashlight Key (3) to turn the LED flashlight on or off.

4.7 Other Functions

  • Scan Function: Long press the Scan/Monitor button (4) to activate channel scanning. The radio will scan through channels and stop on an active one.
  • Monitor Function: Short press the Scan/Monitor button (4) to temporarily disable squelch and listen for weak signals.
  • Roger Beep: An audible tone indicating the end of a transmission. This can usually be enabled/disabled via the menu.
  • Key Lock: Long press the Key Lock button (11) to lock or unlock the keypad, preventing accidental changes.
  • Call Tones: The radio offers 10 selectable call tones. These can be set via the menu.

5. Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the radio's exterior. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Recharge the battery when the low battery alarm sounds. If storing the radio for an extended period, remove the battery.
  • Storage: Store the walkie talkie in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Water Resistance: This device is not water resistant. Avoid exposure to rain, splashes, or immersion in water.
