Setup Instructions
Before operating the machine, ensure it is properly assembled and threaded. The machine may arrive with some assembly required.
1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection
Carefully unpack all components. Inspect for any visible damage. Due to its handmade nature, minor cosmetic marks may be present.

2. Assembling the Stand
Attach the three legs to the main body of the machine using the provided bolts and washers. Ensure the stand is stable on a flat surface.

3. Threading the Machine
The machine comes pre-threaded for initial inspection. Observe the existing thread path before removing it. The top thread runs from the spool, through tensioners, and down to the needle. The bobbin thread is located in the shuttle mechanism below the needle plate.

4. Adjusting Tension
Proper thread tension is crucial for consistent stitching. Adjust the tensioners (spring-loaded discs) to achieve a balanced stitch. Test on a scrap piece of material.

5. Winding the Bobbin
The bobbin winder is integrated into the machine. Place an empty bobbin onto the winder spindle and guide the thread from the main spool to the bobbin. Turn the crank to wind the bobbin, ensuring even tension.

Operating Instructions
1. Preparing Material
Place the material to be sewn under the presser foot. Ensure the material lies flat and is positioned correctly for your desired stitch line.

2. Starting to Sew
Lower the presser foot onto the material. Begin turning the hand crank slowly and steadily. The needle will penetrate the material, and the shuttle mechanism will pick up the bobbin thread to form a lockstitch.

3. Guiding the Material
As you turn the crank, gently guide the material to maintain a straight stitch line. The machine's walking foot mechanism will help feed the material evenly.
4. Adjusting Stitch Length
The stitch length can be adjusted to suit different materials and project requirements. Refer to the stitch adjustment mechanism on the machine to modify the length.

5. Finishing a Stitch Line
Once you reach the end of your stitch, raise the needle to its highest position, lift the presser foot, and pull the material away. Cut the threads, leaving sufficient length to tie off if necessary.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
Regularly clean lint and thread debris from the needle plate, shuttle area, and tension discs. Use a small brush or compressed air.
2. Oiling
Apply a small amount of sewing machine oil to all moving parts, especially the shuttle hook, needle bar, and crank mechanism, as indicated in the manual or by visible wear points. This machine may arrive with excess grease from manufacturing; clean and re-lubricate as needed.
3. Needle Replacement
Replace needles regularly, especially when sewing thick or tough materials, or if the needle becomes bent or dull. Using a damaged needle can lead to skipped stitches or thread breakage.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
1. Bobbin Not Picking Up Thread
If the bobbin thread is not being picked up by the needle, check the following:
- Ensure the bobbin is correctly inserted into its casing and that the thread is properly routed through the tension spring.
- Verify that the top thread is correctly threaded through all guides and tension discs.
- Confirm the needle is inserted correctly, with the flat side facing the back of the machine, and is not bent or dull.
- Adjust the timing of the shuttle hook if necessary (this is an advanced adjustment and may require professional assistance).
