Introduction

This manual provides instructions for replacing the tray belts in various Denon DCD series CD players. The kit includes two rubber belts designed to restore proper functionality to the CD tray mechanism. The procedure outlined uses the DCD-1520 as an example, which is representative of the other listed models.

Safety Information

  • ALWAYS WORK WITH DISCONNECTED POWER. There is live power inside the unit.
  • NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE LASER. Doing so will damage your eyes.
  • Ground yourself to discharge any static electricity from your body before handling internal components.

Product Components

The WUHUAMA Tray Belt Kit includes two rubber belts:

  • Belt A: The upper deck belt, typically longer.
  • Belt B: The lower deck belt, typically shorter.
Two black rubber belts, one slightly larger and thicker than the other, against a white background.

Installation Guide

Follow these steps carefully to replace the tray belts in your Denon DCD series CD player:

  1. Open the CD tray and remove any disc present.
  2. Turn off the CD player and disconnect it from the power outlet.
  3. Remove the black top cover of the unit by unscrewing the four side screws. Some units may also have one screw in the rear center.
  4. Remove the galvanized inside bottom cover.
  5. Carefully place the CD player vertically on its side. Remove the front panel by unscrewing all retaining screws. Then, gently press on the six plastic locking hooks with a small screwdriver to release the panel. Avoid excessive force to prevent breakage. Note that a grounding wire connects the front panel to the chassis; this wire can be carefully disconnected from the front panel. Set the front panel aside.
  6. With the front panel removed, you will now be able to see the top tray belt (Belt A) located just below the tray. The lower belt (Belt B) will also be visible.
  7. Remove one belt at a time. Clean the grooves of the pulley mechanisms using a cotton swab lightly dampened with alcohol. Tweezers or a small screwdriver may assist if you have difficulty reaching the belts.

Maintenance

For optimal performance and longevity of your CD player's tray mechanism, consider these maintenance steps during belt replacement:

  1. Clean any old grease from under the tray gears using a paper towel and alcohol. Apply new grease with a small flat screwdriver to areas where plastic parts come into contact within the tray mechanism.
  2. Locate the 5mm metal rod on the left side of the tray mechanism. Clean it thoroughly and apply a thin coat of Tri-Flow oil for lubrication. Avoid over-lubrication.
  3. Clean and lubricate the 2.5mm metal rod on which the laser moving mechanism slides. Apply lubricant carefully and sparingly.

Troubleshooting

After reassembling the unit, if the tray exhibits issues such as getting stuck, sluggish movement, or not closing completely:

  • Reconnect power and turn on the unit. Eject and close the tray to test its operation.
  • If problems persist, check for belt slippage due to debris or oil. Clean the belts and pulleys again if necessary.
  • Ensure that the tray gears and other lubricated areas are not overlubricated. Wipe away any excess grease.
  • Test the tray operation again. If all issues are resolved, proceed with full reassembly.
