Lenel LNL-1320

Lenel LNL-1320 Dual Reader Interface Module

Instruction Manual

1. Introduction

The Lenel LNL-1320 is a dual-card reader interface panel designed for integration into security systems. This module provides the necessary input/output (I/O) capabilities for controlling two doors, including auxiliary point control and monitoring. It connects two card readers, eight general-purpose input monitor points, and six control relays to any compatible Lenel series intelligent controller.

2. Key Features

  • Operates with a 12 or 24 VDC power supply.
  • Supports various reader technologies including Data1/Data0, Clock/Data, and Lenel OSDP-compatible RS-485 readers and keypads.
  • Features downloadable firmware for updates and enhancements.
  • Equipped with six Form-C 5 A at 28 VDC relay outputs.
  • Supports up to 16 different card and asset formats (8 card formats and 8 asset formats).

3. Setup and Installation

Proper installation of the LNL-1320 module is crucial for optimal performance and system security. Ensure all power is disconnected before beginning installation.

3.2 Power Supply Connection

Connect a 12 VDC or 24 VDC power supply to the designated power input terminals on the module. Verify the correct voltage and polarity to prevent damage to the unit.

3.3 Reader Connections

The LNL-1320 supports two card readers. Connect your chosen readers (Data1/Data0, Clock/Data, or RS-485 OSDP compatible) to the respective reader input terminals. Refer to the reader's specific wiring diagram for proper connection to the module.

3.4 Input and Relay Connections

Connect up to eight general-purpose input monitor points and six control relays as required by your security system design. Ensure all connections are secure and follow local electrical codes.

3.5 Network Connection

Connect the module to a compatible Lenel series intelligent controller via the appropriate communication interface. This connection enables data exchange and control commands.

4. Operation

Once installed and powered, the LNL-1320 module operates under the control of the connected Lenel intelligent controller. It processes data from connected card readers, monitors input points, and activates relays based on programmed access rules and system events.

  • Access Control: When a card is presented to a connected reader, the module transmits the card data to the intelligent controller for validation.
  • Input Monitoring: The module continuously monitors the status of the eight general-purpose input points, reporting changes to the controller.
  • Relay Control: The six Form-C relays can be programmed to control door locks, alarms, or other auxiliary devices based on commands from the intelligent controller.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable operation of your LNL-1320 module.

  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check for and apply available firmware updates from Lenel to ensure the module has the latest features and security patches.
  • Visual Inspection: Annually inspect the module for any signs of physical damage, loose connections, or corrosion.
  • Cleaning: If necessary, gently clean the module with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the module is operating within its specified environmental conditions (temperature, humidity) to prevent premature failure.

6. Troubleshooting

This section provides basic troubleshooting steps for common issues. For complex problems, contact technical support.

  • No Power: Verify the power supply is connected correctly and providing the specified 12 or 24 VDC. Check fuses or circuit breakers.
  • Reader Not Responding: Check reader wiring for proper connections (Data1/Data0, Clock/Data, RS-485). Ensure the reader is compatible and configured correctly in the intelligent controller software.
  • Inputs Not Registering: Verify wiring of input devices to the module. Check the status of the input points within the intelligent controller software.
  • Relays Not Activating: Confirm that the relay is correctly wired to the controlled device. Check programming within the intelligent controller to ensure the relay is configured to activate under the desired conditions.
  • Communication Issues: Verify the network connection between the LNL-1320 and the intelligent controller. Check network cables and controller status.
