1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Tanita TT-583 BL Cooking Thermometer. This digital thermometer is designed for accurate temperature measurement in various cooking applications. Its long probe allows for safe use away from heat sources, and its compact design with a magnet ensures convenient storage. Please read this manual thoroughly before use to ensure proper operation and maintenance.

3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

The thermometer comes with a test battery (CR2032) pre-installed. If the display is dim or not functioning, replace the battery. To replace the battery:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
  2. Use a small screwdriver or coin to open the cover.
  3. Remove the old CR2032 battery.
  4. Insert a new CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
  5. Securely close the battery compartment cover.

3.2 Attaching the Sensor Holder

The included sensor holder can be attached to the thermometer for convenient use and storage. Insert the tip of the sensor holder into the hook hole on the thermometer. This allows you to measure temperatures while keeping your hand away from the heat source.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

Press the ON/OFF button to turn the thermometer on or off. The thermometer features an auto power-off function that activates after approximately 10 minutes of inactivity, provided the ambient temperature is below 45°C and the temperature change is less than 3°C.

4.2 Temperature Measurement

  1. Turn on the thermometer.
  2. Insert the stainless steel probe into the food or liquid you wish to measure. Ensure the probe is immersed sufficiently for an accurate reading (immersion depth of 5.5 inches / 14 cm is recommended for deep pots).
  3. Wait for the temperature reading on the digital display to stabilize. The display is designed for easy readability for both right-handed and left-handed users.
  4. The measurement range is from -50°C to 240°C.

4.3 Hold Function

During temperature measurement, press the HOLD button to fix the displayed temperature value. This allows you to remove the probe from the heat source and read the temperature comfortably. Press the HOLD button again to resume live temperature measurement.

5. Maintenance and Care

5.1 Cleaning

To clean the thermometer, wipe it with a damp cloth. The thermometer has an IPX2 waterproof rating, meaning it is protected against vertically falling water drops when tilted up to 15 degrees. Avoid submerging the main unit in water or using abrasive cleaners.

5.2 Storage

The thermometer features a magnet for convenient storage on metallic surfaces like refrigerators or ovens. It also has a hook hole for hanging. Store in a clean, dry place away from extreme temperatures.

6. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your Tanita TT-583 BL Cooking Thermometer, please refer to the following common solutions:

  • No Display or Dim Display: Check if the battery is correctly installed. Replace the CR2032 battery if it is depleted.
  • Inaccurate Readings: Ensure the probe is fully immersed in the substance being measured. Avoid touching the bottom or sides of the container, which can affect readings. Allow sufficient time for the reading to stabilize.
  • Slow Response Time: While the thermometer has a response time of 1000 milliseconds, very rapid temperature changes or extremely thick substances might require a few extra seconds for the reading to settle.
