Maintenance
Toner Cartridge Replacement
The HP LaserJet Pro M404dn uses HP 58A/58X toner cartridges. To replace a cartridge, open the front access door of the printer. Carefully remove the old toner cartridge by pulling it straight out. Unpack the new toner cartridge, gently shake it to distribute the toner, and then insert it into the printer until it clicks into place. Close the access door.

Always use original HP toner cartridges to avoid reprints, wasted supplies, and service calls.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Connectivity Issues (Offline Status)
If your printer frequently shows an "offline" status when connected via Ethernet, try the following steps:
- Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the printer.
- Connect the printer to your PC using a USB printer cable.
- Go to 123.hp.com/laserjet and download the latest drivers.
- Run the setup program and install the printer over USB.
- Once installed, print a test page to confirm functionality.
- Disconnect the USB cable and reconnect the Ethernet cable.
- Run the setup program again to configure the printer over Ethernet.
This process can help re-establish a stable network connection.
Print Quality Issues
Ensure you are using original HP toner cartridges. Non-HP chips or circuitry may cause functionality issues or block printing. Regular firmware updates are recommended to maintain optimal performance and compatibility.
