1. Introduction

2. Safety Information

Please read all instructions carefully before using the appliance. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious personal injury.

  • Do not immerse the appliance, power cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
  • Ensure the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds to your local mains voltage before connecting.
  • Always unplug the appliance from the power outlet when not in use and before cleaning.

4. Setup

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all packaging materials and place the coffee machine on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the glass carafe, its lid, and the reusable coffee filter in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Wipe the exterior of the coffee machine with a damp cloth.
  3. First Use Cycle: To clean the internal components, fill the water reservoir to the MAX level with fresh water (without coffee grounds). Place the empty carafe on the heating plate. Press the brew button to run a full brewing cycle. Discard the water. Repeat this process once more.
  4. Set Clock: Use the control panel to set the current time. The clock can be switched between 12 and 24-hour formats.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Coffee Brewing

  1. Fill Water Reservoir: Open the top lid of the coffee machine. Fill the glass carafe with the desired amount of fresh water (up to 10 cups) and pour it into the water reservoir. The water level indicator on the side of the machine will show the current water level.

  3. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the reusable coffee filter into its holder. Add your desired amount of ground coffee into the filter. Close the top lid securely.

  5. Place Carafe: Ensure the empty glass carafe is correctly positioned on the heating plate.
  6. Start Brewing: Press the brew button (usually indicated by a coffee cup icon). The machine will begin the brewing process, which typically takes 8-10 minutes for a full pot.

5.2 Programmable Auto-Start

The auto-start feature allows you to set a specific time for your coffee to begin brewing automatically.

  • Prepare the machine with water and coffee grounds as described in Basic Brewing.
  • Press and hold the Auto-Start button (often a clock icon) until the display flashes.
  • Use the adjustment buttons to set your desired brewing time.
  • Confirm the setting by pressing the Auto-Start button again. The machine will now start brewing at the programmed time.

5.3 Aroma Intensity Setting

Customize your coffee's strength with the aroma intensity option, varying between light and intense.

  • Before brewing, press the Aroma Intensity button (often a bean icon) to toggle between light and intense settings.
  • Select your preferred strength, then proceed with basic brewing.

5.4 Keep Warm Function

The machine's heating plate will automatically keep your brewed coffee warm for up to 60 minutes after the brewing cycle is complete. After 60 minutes, the heating plate will automatically turn off.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Smeg coffee machine.

  • Daily Cleaning: After each use, unplug the machine. Remove the carafe, its lid, and the reusable filter. Wash these parts in warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. The filter holder is also removable for easy cleaning.

  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  • Descaling: The machine features a de-scaling alarm light indicator. When this light illuminates, it indicates that descaling is required. Follow the descaling instructions in the full user manual (PDF) for proper procedure. Regular descaling prevents mineral buildup and maintains brewing efficiency.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your coffee machine, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
