3. Setup
Before beginning any crimping task, ensure you have a clean, well-lit workspace. Identify the correct wire gauge (AWG 26-18) and the appropriate connector type for your application. Select the corresponding crimping jaw slot on the tool.
3.1 Adjusting Jaw Pressure
The crimper features an adjustable screw to modify jaw pressure. To adjust:
- Locate the adjustment screw on the side of the crimper.
- Turn the screw towards "+" to increase pressure (make it tighter).
- Turn the screw towards "-" to decrease pressure (make it looser).
- Test on a scrap wire and terminal to ensure optimal crimp without damaging the wire or terminal.
4. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for proper crimping:
4.1 Jaw Specifications and Connector Compatibility
The crimper has three distinct jaw slots, each designed for specific connector types. Refer to the diagram below to select the correct slot for your terminal.

Figure 5: Crimping Jaw Specifications. This diagram illustrates the three distinct crimping jaw sections of the tool, each designed for specific connector types such as XH 2.54mm, C3-R 2.54mm, JST, Molex IDE, ATX, VH3.96, and Dupont pins (male and female).
- Slot 1: Works for XH 2.54 mm, C3-R 2.54 mm, JST type connectors, KF2510, XHP2.54.
- Slot 2: Works for Molex IDE power connectors (5559), ATX power connectors (5557), VH3.96, Dupont 3.96.
- Slot 3: Works for Dupont Pins 2.54 (female), Dupont Pins 2.54 (male), EPS, PCIE, and SATA power pins.
4.2 Crimping Procedure
- Prepare the Wire: Strip approximately 3-4mm of insulation from the end of the wire. Ensure the stripped wire length matches the terminal's crimp barrel.
- Position the Terminal: Open the crimper jaws and carefully place the terminal into the appropriate jaw slot (refer to Figure 5). Lightly squeeze the handles until the terminal is held securely in place by the crimper, but not fully crimped. The insulation crimp wings should be outside the jaw, and the conductor crimp wings inside.
- Insert the Wire: Insert the stripped end of the wire into the terminal's conductor crimp barrel. Ensure all wire strands are within the barrel.
- Complete the Crimp: Squeeze the crimper handles firmly until the ratcheting mechanism releases. This ensures a complete and secure crimp.
- Inspect the Crimp: Remove the crimped terminal and inspect it. The conductor crimp should be tight around the wire strands, and the insulation crimp should grip the wire's insulation without cutting it. Gently tug on the wire to verify it is securely fastened.

Figure 6: Crimping Steps. A visual guide demonstrating the three essential steps for successful crimping: first, correctly positioning the terminal in the jaws; second, inserting the stripped wire and pressing firmly; and third, achieving a secure and perfect crimp.
4.3 Applications
This crimping tool set is ideal for a wide range of applications, including:
- DIY electronics projects
- Prototyping with microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi)
- Repairing and modifying wiring harnesses
- Connecting components on breadboards and circuit boards

Figure 7: Example Applications. This image illustrates various applications of the crimping tool, showing completed connections on a breadboard, a Raspberry Pi, and other electronic circuit boards, highlighting its versatility in DIY electronics and industrial projects.
5. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your crimping tool.
- Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the tool with a clean, dry cloth to remove any debris or residue.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a light machine oil to the pivot points and moving parts to ensure smooth operation.
- Storage: Store the tool in a dry environment to prevent rust. Keep connectors organized in their respective cases to prevent loss and damage.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the crimping jaws for wear or damage. Damaged jaws can lead to poor crimps.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues during crimping, consider the following:
- Poor Crimp Quality:
- Ensure the correct jaw slot is used for the terminal.
- Verify the wire gauge is within the tool's specified range (AWG 26-18).
- Adjust jaw pressure if the crimp is too loose or too tight.
- Check if the wire is stripped to the correct length.
- Wire Slipping Out:
- Ensure the wire is fully inserted into the terminal's conductor barrel before crimping.
- Confirm the insulation crimp wings are properly gripping the wire's insulation.
- Tool Jams:
- Do not force the tool. The ratcheting mechanism should release smoothly.
- Inspect for any foreign objects obstructing the jaws.
