Setup

Connecting the Tester

To begin testing, ensure the vehicle is off and the battery terminals are clean. Connect the red clamp of the KW600 to the positive (+) battery terminal and the black clamp to the negative (-) battery terminal. The device will power on automatically.

Operating Instructions

The KW600 offers various testing modes to comprehensively assess your battery and charging system. Use the navigation buttons (Up, Down, Enter, Exit) to select desired options from the main menu.

Battery Test (In-Vehicle)

This test assesses the battery's condition while it is installed in the vehicle. Follow the on-screen prompts, which may include turning headlights on and off for a specified duration to check surface charge.

Battery Test (Out-of-Vehicle)

For a standalone battery test, select the "Out-of-Vehicle" option. This mode is ideal for testing batteries that have been removed from a vehicle or are not currently connected to a charging system.

Cranking Test

The cranking test evaluates the vehicle's starting system. The tester will prompt you to start the engine. It measures the cranking voltage and time to determine if the starter motor is functioning correctly.

Charging System Test

This test analyzes the alternator's performance and the overall charging system. It measures loaded and unloaded voltage, as well as ripple voltage, to ensure the battery is receiving proper charge.

Reviewing Data

The KW600 stores test results for later review. Navigate to the "Review" option from the main menu to access previously saved data. You can also upload data to a PC for printing and deeper analysis.

Maintenance

Keep your KW600 clean and dry. Store it in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.

Software Update

KONNWEI provides lifetime free software updates for the KW600. To update the software, connect the device to a Windows PC using the provided Mini-USB cable and follow the instructions on the KONNWEI website. This ensures your tester always has the latest features and compatibility.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions

  • No Power: Ensure clamps are securely connected to the correct battery terminals. The device draws power directly from the battery.
  • Inaccurate Readings: Check for clean battery terminals and secure connections. Ensure the correct battery type and CCA rating are entered in the device settings.
  • "Bad Cell" or "Replace Battery" Message: This indicates significant internal damage or end-of-life for the battery. Replacement is recommended.
  • "Charge-Retest" Message: The battery is unstable or has low charge. Fully charge the battery and retest.

Interpreting Test Results

The KW600 provides clear interpretations of battery health:

  • Good Battery: The battery is in optimal condition and can be used without concerns.
  • Good, Recharge: The battery is healthy but has low current. Recharge it before further use.
  • Replace: The battery is at or near the end of its useful life. Replacement is necessary.
  • Bad Cell, Replace: The battery has internal damage, a bad cell, or a short circuit. Immediate replacement is required.
