2. Safety Information

Always observe standard safety precautions when working with vacuum equipment.

  • Ensure the pump is disconnected from the power supply before performing any maintenance or inspection.
  • Operate the pump in a well-ventilated area.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses and gloves, when handling pump oil or other fluids.
  • Do not block the motor fan cover or any ventilation openings.
  • Refer to local regulations for proper disposal of used pump oil and other waste materials.

3. Setup and Installation

Proper setup is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of the vacuum pump.

  1. Unpacking and Inspection: Carefully remove the pump from its packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage during transit. Report any damage to the supplier immediately.
  2. Placement: Position the pump on a stable, level surface. Ensure adequate clearance around the pump for ventilation and access for maintenance. The operating temperature range is 12 – 40 °C.
  3. Oil Filling: The pump oil is not included and must be purchased separately. The recommended oil is Ultragrade 19.
    • Locate the oil filler-plug (refer to Figure 3.1, item 6).
    • Remove the oil filler-plug.
    • Fill the pump with Ultragrade 19 oil until the level is between the minimum and maximum marks on the oil-level sight-glass (refer to Figure 3.1, item 8). The oil capacity is 0.65 to 1 liter.
    • Replace the oil filler-plug securely.
  4. Connecting Inlet and Exhaust:
    • Connect the vacuum system to the NW25 inlet-port (refer to Figure 3.1, item 4).
    • Connect the exhaust line to the NW25 outlet-port (refer to Figure 3.1, item 7). Ensure all connections are leak-tight.
  5. Electrical Connection: The power connector is 1-phase (IEC EN60320 C13). Ensure the power supply matches the pump's requirements (50Hz/110V or 60Hz/115V-120V). Connect the power cable to the electrical inlet-connector (refer to Figure 3.1, item 1).

Key parts include (1) Electrical inlet-connector, (2) Voltage indicator, (3) Lifting handle, (4) NW25 inlet-port, (5) Gas-ballast control, (6) Oil filler-plug, (7) NW25 outlet-port, (8) Oil-level sight-glass, (9) Oil drain-plug, (10) Rubber feet, (11) Mode selector, (12) On-off switch, (13) Motor fan-cover, (14) Correct direction of rotation indicator.

4. Operation

The RV12 pump features a unique mode selector switch and gas ballast control for versatile operation.

  1. Power On: Once all connections are secure and oil is at the correct level, switch the pump on using the On-off switch (refer to Figure 3.1, item 12). The pump will start with a smooth, controlled inlet valve opening.
  2. Mode Selection: The mode selector (refer to Figure 3.1, item 11) allows the pump to be configured for either high vacuum or high throughput applications. Select the appropriate mode based on your application requirements.
  3. Gas Ballast Control: The gas-ballast control (refer to Figure 3.1, item 5) can be used to handle water vapor. The two-position gas ballast allows for handling either 60 g/hr or 220 g/hr of water vapor. Engage the gas ballast when pumping condensable vapors to prevent contamination of the pump oil.
  4. Monitoring: Regularly check the oil-level sight-glass (Figure 3.1, item 8) during operation to ensure the oil level is maintained.
  5. Power Off: To stop the pump, switch the On-off switch to the 'off' position. The rapid closing inlet valve will activate within 0.4 seconds to provide anti-suck back protection.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the reliability and extends the lifespan of your vacuum pump. The RV12 is designed for easy maintenance.

  • Oil Change: The pump oil should be changed periodically, depending on the application and operating conditions.
    • Ensure the pump is switched off and disconnected from the power supply.
    • Place a suitable container under the oil drain-plug (refer to Figure 3.1, item 9).
    • Remove the oil drain-plug and allow all old oil to drain completely.
    • Replace the oil drain-plug.
    • Refill with fresh Ultragrade 19 oil as described in the "Setup and Installation" section.
  • Cleaning: Keep the exterior of the pump clean, especially the motor fan cover (Figure 3.1, item 13) and cooling fins, to ensure efficient heat dissipation.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect all connections for leaks and ensure the rubber feet (Figure 3.1, item 10) are intact.

6. Troubleshooting

This section provides basic troubleshooting steps for common issues. For complex problems, contact qualified service personnel.
