General Safety Rules:
- Read and understand all instructions in this manual before starting the engine.
- Never allow children or untrained persons to operate the machine.

- Do not operate the machine when tired, ill, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Keep all guards and safety devices in place and in working order.

- Exercise extreme caution when operating on slopes. Mow across slopes, not up and down.
- Disengage the cutting blades and turn off the engine before leaving the operator's position, clearing blockages, or performing maintenance.
- Keep hands and feet away from rotating parts.
3. Setup and Assembly

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Controls Overview
Familiarize yourself with the location and function of all controls before starting the engine. Key controls include the ignition switch, throttle lever, choke, cutting height adjustment lever, and hydrostatic pedal.
4.2 Starting the Engine
- Ensure the parking brake is engaged.
- Place the throttle lever in the "FAST" position.
- If the engine is cold, move the choke lever to the "CHOKE" position.
- Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the "START" position. Release the key once the engine starts.
- Once the engine warms up (a few seconds), gradually move the choke lever to the "RUN" position.
4.3 Driving and Mowing
- Engaging Blades: With the engine running, disengage the parking brake. Engage the cutting blades using the PTO (Power Take-Off) lever.
- Cutting Height: Adjust the cutting height using the lever on the side of the machine. The MTD SMART RE 130 H offers 5 positions, from 30 mm to 95 mm.
- Speed Control: The hydrostatic transmission is controlled by a foot pedal. Press forward for forward motion, and backward for reverse. Adjust pressure for speed control.
- Mowing Pattern: For best results, mow in overlapping passes. Avoid sudden turns on slopes.
- Grass Collection: The integrated 240 L textile grass collector will fill during operation. Monitor its level and empty it regularly to maintain cutting performance.
4.4 Stopping the Engine
- Disengage the cutting blades.
- Move the throttle lever to the "SLOW" position.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position and remove it.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of your lawn tractor. Always ensure the engine is off and the key is removed before performing any maintenance.
5.1 Daily/Before Each Use
- Check engine oil level.
- Inspect cutting blades for sharpness and damage.
- Clean grass clippings from the cutting deck and around the engine.
- Check tire pressure.
- Ensure all safety guards are in place and functional.

- Spark Plug: Inspect and replace the spark plug annually or as needed.
- Blade Sharpening/Replacement: Sharpen or replace blades when dull or damaged. Always use genuine MTD replacement parts.

For long-term storage (over 30 days):
- Clean the entire machine thoroughly.
- Drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer. Run the engine briefly to circulate the stabilizer.
