1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Nu-Air ES100 Residential Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV). The ES100 is designed to provide fresh air while recovering heat from exhaust air, contributing to improved indoor air quality and energy efficiency in homes up to 2500 sq. ft. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and operation to ensure proper functioning and safety.

The Nu-Air ES100 unit meets ENERGY STAR requirements for HRVs, offering quiet and efficient performance.

2. Safety Information

Always follow basic safety precautions when installing, operating, and maintaining this appliance to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.

  • Disconnect power before servicing.
  • Installation must comply with all local and national electrical and building codes.
  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  • Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  • Do not use this unit with any solid-state speed control device.
  • Ensure proper grounding.

3. Setup and Installation

3.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove the unit from its packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Report any damage immediately to your supplier.

3.2 Mounting the Unit

The ES100 is designed for easy hanging with adjustable straps. Ensure the mounting location is structurally sound and allows for proper ducting and maintenance access.

3.3 Ducting Connections

The unit features 5-inch round duct connections at the top. Refer to the diagram below for proper connection of return air, outside air, supply air, and exhaust air ducts.

3.4 Electrical Wiring

The ES100 operates on 115-120V/1/60 electrical supply. It features removable wire blocks for safe wiring at floor level. Ensure all wiring is done by a qualified electrician and complies with local codes.

The unit features a double door system for immediate reverse configuration without effort, allowing flexibility in installation.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Controls

The ES100 is compatible with a new line of attractive, easy-to-use touch controls which can be mounted in single- or multiple-gang boxes. Refer to the control unit's specific manual for detailed operation.

ES Series (12 VDC) Controls:

  • ES-M1: Off/Stby/Lo/Hi
  • ES-M2: Off/Stby/Lo/20 Lo—40 Stby
  • ES-M3: Off/Stby/Lo/20 Lo—40 Recirculation
  • ES-M4: Off/Stby/20 Recirculation (Lo)
  • ES-T1: 20-40-60-minute timer
  • Lumina (NAV-561): Low speed, high speed, intermittent, recirculation, 20/40 standby, 20/40 recirculation, 20-40-60 minute timer, filter service alert (clock)

WINDOR Series (24 VAC) Controls:

  • DX-AT-T: Humidity control
  • WIN-1: Humidity control/OFF/STBY/Continuous/Intermittent/Full-time high speed
  • *WIN-20: 20-minute timer (up to 6)
  • *WIN-21: Gang box for multi-switch wall boxes
  • Also: Any 24 VAC, two-wire switch.
  • *Compatible with Nu-Air 12 VDC control options

4.2 Defrost Operation

When outdoor temperature falls to -5° C (23° F), an automatic timed defrost cycle is initiated. The fresh air motor will go to high speed and the exhaust air motor will turn off. A damper will shut off the cold supply port, directing ambient air through the core for defrosting. The unit will resume normal operation for a fixed duration, then the processor will read outdoor temperature and initiate defrost as necessary. Defrost varies with outdoor temperature.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your Nu-Air ES100 HRV.

5.1 Filter Cleaning/Replacement

The unit includes two washable filters. Regularly inspect and clean these filters to maintain airflow and efficiency. Refer to the control unit for filter service alerts.

5.2 Core Maintenance

The unit's double door system allows for easy access to the core for routine maintenance. The high-efficiency crossflow HRV core is designed for sensible energy recovery.

5.3 General Cleaning

Keep the exterior of the unit clean. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

6. Troubleshooting
