4. Setup Guide

4.1. Driver Installation

Before plugging in the USB WiFi adapter, it is recommended to install the necessary drivers. You can find the drivers on the included CD or download them from the official Inamax support website.

  1. Insert the driver CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive, or download the latest drivers from the Inamax support website.
  2. Locate and run the setup file (e.g., `setup.exe` for Windows or the installer package for Mac).
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation.
  4. For Mac OS users: If you encounter issues with driver installation, navigate to "System Preferences" > "Security & Privacy" and click "Allow" for the driver software.

4.2. Hardware Installation

  1. After the driver installation is complete, plug the Inamax USB WiFi Adapter into an available USB port on your desktop or laptop computer. For optimal performance, use a USB 3.0 port if available.
  2. The system should automatically detect the adapter and configure it.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Connecting to a Wi-Fi Network (Station Mode)

  1. Once the adapter is installed, click on the Wi-Fi icon in your computer's system tray (Windows) or menu bar (Mac).
  2. A list of available wireless networks will appear. Select your desired network (SSID).
  3. Enter the network security key (password) if prompted.
  4. Click "Connect" to establish the connection.

5.2. Understanding Dual-Band Operation (2.4GHz vs 5GHz)

  • 2.4GHz Band: Offers wider coverage and better penetration through walls. Ideal for general internet browsing and stable connections over longer distances. Max speed up to 300Mbps.
  • 5GHz Band: Provides faster speeds and less interference, but has a shorter range and is more susceptible to obstacles. Ideal for online gaming, HD video streaming, and large file transfers when close to the router. Max speed up to 867Mbps.
  • If your router supports both bands, you may see two network names (SSIDs), e.g., "MyWiFi_2.4G" and "MyWiFi_5G". Choose the band that best suits your needs and proximity to the router.

5.3. Creating a Wi-Fi Hotspot (AP Mode)

The Inamax USB WiFi Adapter can function as a soft Access Point (AP), allowing your computer to share its internet connection with other Wi-Fi enabled devices. This feature is typically supported on Windows operating systems.

  1. Install the utility software provided on the driver CD or downloaded from the Inamax website.
  2. Open the utility software and navigate to the "AP Mode" or "Soft AP" section.
  3. Configure the network name (SSID) and password for your new hotspot.
  4. Enable the AP Mode. Your computer will now broadcast a Wi-Fi signal that other devices can connect to.

6. Maintenance

  • General Care: Avoid shaking or frequently plugging/unplugging the adapter to prevent loosening of connections. When traveling, unplug the adapter and store it safely.
  • Driver Updates: Periodically check the Inamax official website for updated drivers. Keeping your drivers current can improve performance and resolve compatibility issues.
  • Cleaning: Keep the adapter clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Adapter stops working suddenly: Try unplugging the adapter from the USB port and plugging it back in. If the issue persists, reinstall or update the driver manually.
  • Unstable connection: Check your Wi-Fi signal strength. If the signal is weak, try repositioning the adapter or your computer. Ensure your router's Wi-Fi channel is not congested; you may need to change it in your router settings.
  • Slow speeds on USB 3.0 port: If you experience unusually low download speeds when connected to a USB 3.0 port, try plugging the adapter into a USB 2.0 port. Some system configurations may have compatibility issues with USB 3.0 drivers.
  • Driver installation issues on Mac OS: If the driver cannot be installed, go to "System Preferences" > "Security & Privacy" and click "Allow" for the driver software.
  • Cannot detect any Wi-Fi networks: Ensure the adapter is properly installed and its drivers are up to date. Check if your computer's built-in Wi-Fi is disabled, as it might conflict with the external adapter.
  • No internet access after connecting to Wi-Fi: Verify that your router has an active internet connection. Restart your router and modem.
