1. Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your capetsma Digital Touch Screen Aquarium Thermometer, Model CA-01. This device is designed to accurately monitor the temperature of water in aquariums, terrariums, and habitats for amphibians and reptiles, ensuring a stable environment for your pets.
2. Product Features
- Cordless & Touch Screen Design: Eliminates the need for probes or wires inside the tank, preventing water infiltration and electronic oxidation. The temperature sensor adheres to the outside glass of the tank.
- Large LCD Display: Features a 3.2-inch transparent screen with large numbers for easy readability from a distance. The transparent design does not obstruct the view of your tank.
- Accurate Temperature Monitoring: Provides temperature readings from 0°C to 70°C (32°F to 158°F) with an accuracy of 0.1°. The external sensor ensures precise measurement without direct water contact.
- Simple Operation: Easy battery installation and intuitive controls for switching between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature units.
- Temperature Alarm Function: Allows setting of high and low temperature thresholds. The device will flash to indicate when the temperature falls outside the set range.

5. Setup Instructions
- Battery Installation:
Locate the black battery cover at the bottom of the thermometer. Gently pull down the cover to open the battery compartment. Insert one CR2 battery with the positive (+) side facing up. Close the battery cover securely.

Figure 5.1: Battery installation process. Open the cover, insert the battery, and close.
- Placement on Tank:
Clean the exterior glass surface of your aquarium or terrarium where you intend to place the thermometer. Ensure the surface is dry and free of debris. Remove the protective film from the double-sided adhesive tape on the back of the thermometer. Firmly press the thermometer onto the chosen spot on the outside of the tank. The backside temperature sensor must make good contact with the glass for accurate readings.

Figure 5.2: Backside temperature sensor for external mounting. No probes are placed inside the water.
Important Placement Considerations:
- The thermometer is designed for external use only. Do not place it inside the water.
- Avoid placing the thermometer in areas where it might receive direct sunlight, be submerged below the waterline, or be covered by substrate, as these can lead to inaccurate readings.
Figure 5.3: Incorrect placement examples. For optimal accuracy and device longevity, avoid placing the thermometer directly in the water, near the waterline where it might get wet, or obscured by substrate. It should be mounted on the dry, exterior glass surface of the tank.
6. Operation
- Reading Temperature:
Once installed, the thermometer will automatically display the current temperature on its large LCD screen. Allow a few minutes for the sensor to stabilize and provide an accurate reading of the tank's water temperature through the glass.

- Switching Temperature Units (°C/°F):
To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F), gently press the "up" or "down" touch button located on the front panel of the thermometer. The display will change accordingly.

- Setting High/Low Temperature Alarms:
The thermometer allows you to set desired high and low temperature thresholds. If the tank temperature goes above the high limit or below the low limit, the displayed temperature will flash to alert you.
- Press the "SET" button (often indicated by a fish icon) to enter setting mode.
- Use the "up" and "down" buttons to adjust the high temperature limit.
- Press "SET" again to confirm the high limit and move to setting the low temperature limit.
- Use the "up" and "down" buttons to adjust the low temperature limit.
- Press "SET" one more time to save your settings and exit setting mode.

7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: To clean the thermometer, gently wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or submerging the device in water.
- Battery Replacement: When the display becomes dim or stops functioning, it is time to replace the battery. Follow the battery installation steps in Section 5.1. Use CR2 batteries only.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No display or dim display | Low or dead battery. Incorrect battery installation. | Replace the CR2 battery, ensuring correct polarity. Refer to Section 5.1. |
| Inaccurate temperature reading | Poor contact between sensor and tank glass. External factors (direct sunlight, air currents). | Ensure the thermometer is firmly adhered to a clean, dry, flat glass surface. Reposition if necessary, avoiding direct heat sources or drafts. Allow time for the reading to stabilize. |
| Temperature unit resets to Celsius | Temporary loss of power or sensor contact. | Re-establish firm contact with the tank glass. Press the "up" or "down" button to switch back to Fahrenheit if desired. |
| Adhesive not holding | Surface not clean or dry. Adhesive worn out. | Clean and dry the tank surface thoroughly before application. If the original adhesive is no longer effective, use new double-sided adhesive tape suitable for glass. |
