1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the HoldPeak HP-866B-APP Handheld Anemometer. This device is designed for accurate measurement of wind speed, wind temperature, and air flow (CFM). Equipped with Bluetooth connectivity and a tripod, it offers convenient remote monitoring and hands-free operation, making it ideal for a wide range of applications from HVAC and outdoor sports to industrial use.

Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the device to ensure proper use and to maximize its lifespan.

2. Package Contents

Upon opening the package, please verify that all items listed below are present and in good condition:

  • 1 x HoldPeak HP-866B-APP Anemometer
  • 1 x Adjustable Tripod
  • 1 x Hand Strap
  • 1 x Carrying Bag
  • 1 x Instruction Manual (this document)
  • 1 x Screwdriver
  • 2 x AAA Batteries

3. Product Overview

Familiarize yourself with the main components and controls of your anemometer:

  • Fan Blades: Measures wind speed. Features 8 vanes for higher accuracy.
  • Wind Chill Sensor: Detects wind chill temperature.
  • 1.5" LCD Screen: Displays readings, units, and battery level.
  • Power ON/OFF Button: Turns the device on or off.
  • Backlight ON/OFF Button: Activates or deactivates the LCD backlight.
  • UNIT Switch: Cycles through wind speed units (m/s, km/h, ft/min, knots, mph).
  • MAX/MIN Mode Button: Displays maximum or minimum recorded wind speed.
  • AVG Mode Button: Displays average wind speed.
  • °F/°C Switch: Toggles between Fahrenheit and Celsius temperature units.
  • Tripod Hole: Located at the bottom for mounting on the included tripod.
  • Hand Strap Loop: For attaching the included hand strap.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the anemometer.
  2. Use the provided screwdriver to open the battery cover.
  3. Insert 2 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Replace the battery cover and secure it with the screw.

4.2 Attaching the Tripod

The included tripod allows for stable, hands-free measurement, especially useful for remote monitoring via the app.

  1. Extend the tripod legs to a stable position.
  2. Unscrew the mounting screw on the tripod head.
  3. Align the anemometer's tripod hole with the tripod's mounting screw.
  4. Securely fasten the anemometer to the tripod by tightening the screw.
  5. Adjust the 3-way head for desired angle and rotation.

4.3 Bluetooth APP Connection

The HP-866B-APP connects to your mobile device via Bluetooth for remote monitoring and data logging.

  1. Download the official HoldPeak APP from your device's app store (search for "HoldPeak Anemometer").
  2. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device.
  3. Power on the anemometer.
  4. Open the HoldPeak APP and follow the on-screen instructions to pair with your HP-866B-APP device.
  5. Once connected, real-time data will be displayed on your phone, and historical data can be viewed.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

  • Press the red power button to turn the anemometer on.
  • Press and hold the red power button for a few seconds to turn the anemometer off.

5.2 Unit Switching

Press the UNIT button to cycle through different wind speed units:

  • m/s (meters per second)
  • km/h (kilometers per hour)
  • ft/min (feet per minute)
  • knots
  • mph (miles per hour)

Press the °F/°C button to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius for temperature readings.

5.3 Max/Min/Average Readings

  • Press the MAX/MIN button to view the maximum or minimum wind speed recorded during the current measurement session.
  • Press the AVG button to display the average wind speed.

5.4 Backlight

Press the light bulb icon button to turn the LCD backlight on or off, improving visibility in low-light conditions.

5.5 Wind Chill and CFM Calculation

  • The device automatically calculates and displays wind chill based on wind speed and temperature.
  • For CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) calculation, use the formula: Air Flow in CFM = Wind speed x Duct Cross Sectional Area. This is particularly useful for HVAC applications.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the fan blades are free from dust and debris for accurate readings.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the LCD. Always use new AAA batteries.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the anemometer in its carrying bag in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Device does not power on. Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. Check battery polarity. Replace with new AAA batteries.
Inaccurate wind speed readings. Obstructed fan blades; dirty sensor; low battery. Clean fan blades. Ensure nothing is blocking the sensor. Replace batteries.
No wind speed reading despite fan spinning. Internal sensor malfunction or connection issue. Ensure the fan spins freely. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
Bluetooth connection fails. Bluetooth not enabled; device out of range; app issue. Ensure Bluetooth is on. Move closer to the device. Restart the app and anemometer.
