3. Assembly
Follow these steps to assemble your Milwaukee M18 Fuel String Trimmer.
3.1 Attaching the String Trimmer Head
- Ensure the power head is turned off and the battery pack is removed.
- Align the arrow on the QUIK-LOK String Trimmer Attachment with the arrow on the M18 FUEL Power Head.
- Push the attachment into the power head until it clicks into place.
- Tighten the locking knob on the power head to secure the attachment.
3.2 Installing the Auxiliary Handle
- Loosen the knob on the auxiliary handle.
- Slide the handle onto the shaft of the power head to a comfortable operating position.
- Ensure the handle is positioned for optimal balance and control.
- Tighten the knob securely to fix the handle in place.
3.3 Inserting the Battery Pack
- Ensure the tool is turned off.
- Align the battery pack with the battery port on the power head.
- Slide the battery pack into the port until it latches securely.
- To remove, press the release button and pull the battery pack out.
4. Operation

4.1 Starting and Stopping the Trimmer
- To Start: With the battery inserted, press and hold the safety lock-off button, then squeeze the trigger. The motor will start.
- To Adjust Speed: The trigger is variable speed. Squeeze it further for higher speed.
- To Stop: Release the trigger. The motor will stop.
4.2 Trimming Techniques
- Sweeping Motion: Use a side-to-side sweeping motion, keeping the trimmer head slightly above the ground.
- Angle: For best results, hold the trimmer at a slight angle to the cutting surface.
- Avoid Overloading: Do not force the trimmer into thick brush. Allow the motor to maintain its speed.
- Edging: For edging, tilt the trimmer head to a vertical position and walk along the edge of the lawn or path.
4.3 Advancing Trimmer Line
The Easy Load Trimmer Head is designed for convenient line advancement.
- Bump Feed: While the trimmer is running, gently tap the trimmer head on a firm surface (e.g., the ground). This will advance a small amount of line.
- Manual Feed: If the bump feed is not effective, turn off the trimmer, remove the battery, and manually pull the line from the spool.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your tool.
5.1 Cleaning
- Always remove the battery pack before cleaning or performing any maintenance.
- Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove debris from the motor housing and ventilation openings.

- Clean the trimmer head regularly to prevent buildup of grass and dirt.
5.2 Replacing Trimmer Line

- Insert a new length of trimmer line (refer to specifications for recommended diameter) through one eyelet and out the other until both ends are even.
- Rotate the trimmer head knob clockwise to wind the line evenly onto the spool.

- Charge the M18 REDLITHIUM HD9.0 Battery using only the M18 & M12 Rapid Charger.
- Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Do not store batteries in a discharged state for extended periods.
6. Troubleshooting
