CubePilot The Cube Purple User Manual

Model: The Cube Purple | Brand: Hex Technology

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of the CubePilot The Cube Purple autopilot. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the device.

The Cube Purple is the latest iteration of the popular Pixhawk 2.1 autopilot. It is designed for applications where a compact and low-cost solution is required, particularly in builds with limited vertical space, as its total height is only 1cm.

Key features include a single 10-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), comprising an MPU9250 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis magnetometer, and an MS5611 Barometer. The Cube Purple is compatible with all Pixhawk 2.1 carrier boards, including the standard carrier board, Mini Carrier Board, and The Cube Kore.

2. Setup

2.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove the Cube Purple from its packaging. Inspect the module for any signs of physical damage. If any damage is observed, do not proceed with installation and contact your vendor.

2.2 Carrier Board Compatibility

The Cube Purple is designed to be used with a Pixhawk 2.1 carrier board. Ensure you have one of the following compatible carrier boards:

  • Standard Pixhawk 2.1 Carrier Board
  • Mini Carrier Board
  • The Cube Kore

2.3 Installation on Carrier Board

Align the Cube Purple module with the corresponding connector on your chosen Pixhawk 2.1 carrier board. Gently press down until the module is securely seated. Ensure all pins are correctly aligned to prevent damage.

2.4 Initial Power-Up and Firmware Loading

Once installed on the carrier board, connect the carrier board to a power source. Connect the carrier board to your computer via USB. Use a compatible ground station software (e.g., Mission Planner, QGroundControl) to load the appropriate firmware for your application. Follow the software's instructions for firmware installation and initial calibration.

3. Operating Principles

The Cube Purple functions as the central processing unit for your unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or robotic platform. It processes sensor data, executes flight control algorithms, and manages communication with other components.

3.1 Sensor Integration

The integrated 10-axis IMU (MPU9250 accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer) and MS5611 Barometer provide essential data for attitude estimation, navigation, and altitude hold. Ensure these sensors are properly calibrated within your ground station software for optimal performance.

3.2 System Overview

The CubePilot ecosystem allows for integration with various peripherals. The following diagram illustrates a typical setup with the Cube as the central controller.

For detailed operational procedures, refer to the documentation specific to your chosen ground station software and the overall vehicle platform.

4. Maintenance

The Cube Purple is a robust electronic component designed for reliability. Minimal maintenance is required.

4.1 Cleaning

Keep the module free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry brush or compressed air to gently clean the exterior. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.

4.2 Environmental Considerations

Store and operate the Cube Purple within its specified temperature and humidity ranges. Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and moisture.

4.3 Firmware Updates

Periodically check for firmware updates from the official CubePilot website or your ground station software. Keeping the firmware updated ensures access to the latest features, bug fixes, and performance improvements.

5. Troubleshooting

This section provides basic troubleshooting steps for common issues.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
