1. Introduction and Overview

This manual provides instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your Sellerocity American Made Check Valve. This check valve is designed to prevent the backflow of compressed air in various Campbell Hausfeld air compressor models, ensuring efficient and safe operation. Constructed from durable brass, this valve is built for reliability and ease of service.

2. Safety Information

Always observe the following safety precautions when working with air compressor components:

  • Depressurize System: Before attempting any installation or maintenance, ensure the air compressor system is fully depressurized and disconnected from its power source.
  • Disconnect Power: Always unplug the air compressor from the electrical outlet to prevent accidental startup.
  • Wear Safety Gear: Use appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, to protect against potential hazards.
  • Consult Compressor Manual: Refer to your specific air compressor's instruction manual for additional safety guidelines and procedures.

3. Product Components

The Sellerocity Check Valve assembly includes the main brass valve body, a hose barb fitting, and an internal clip mechanism for maintenance.

4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to install or replace the check valve:

  1. Preparation: Ensure the air compressor is off, depressurized, and unplugged.
  2. Remove Old Valve (if applicable): Carefully unscrew and remove the existing check valve from the compressor tank. Be prepared for any residual air or oil.
  3. Inspect Threads: Clean the threads on the compressor tank and apply thread sealant (e.g., PTFE tape or pipe dope) to the threads of the new Sellerocity check valve.
  4. Install New Valve: Thread the new check valve into the compressor tank opening. Tighten securely with a wrench, but do not overtighten, as this can damage the threads or the valve.
  5. Connect Hose Barb: If not pre-installed, apply thread sealant to the smaller threads of the hose barb fitting and screw it into the side port of the check valve. Connect the appropriate air line hose to the barb.
  6. Leak Check: Once installed, reconnect power to the compressor and allow it to build pressure. Apply a soapy water solution to all connections to check for air leaks. Tighten any leaking connections as necessary.

5. Operation

The Sellerocity Check Valve operates automatically. Its primary function is to allow compressed air to flow from the compressor pump into the air tank while preventing air from flowing back from the tank to the pump when the compressor motor stops. This ensures that the compressor can restart without having to overcome tank pressure, reducing strain on the motor.

6. Maintenance

Regular inspection and maintenance can extend the life of your check valve:

  • Periodic Inspection: Visually inspect the valve and connections for any signs of wear, corrosion, or leaks.
  • Cleaning: If the valve appears dirty or obstructed, depressurize the system, remove the valve, and clean it with a suitable solvent. The internal clip allows for easy disassembly for cleaning or replacement of internal components.
  • Leak Detection: Periodically check for air leaks using a soapy water solution around the valve and its connections.

7. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your air compressor that may be related to the check valve, consider the following:

  • Compressor Motor Strains on Startup: This could indicate that the check valve is not closing properly, allowing tank pressure to remain on the pump. Inspect and clean or replace the check valve.
  • Air Leaks Around Valve: Check the tightness of the valve and hose barb connections. Reapply thread sealant if necessary. If the leak persists from the valve body itself, the valve may be faulty and require replacement.
  • Compressor Continuously Runs: While often related to the pressure switch, a faulty check valve that allows air to escape could contribute to the compressor struggling to reach pressure.
