This image displays the front of the network switch, highlighting the eight 10/100 Mbps PoE ports (labeled 1-8), two 10/100 Mbps non-PoE uplink ports (labeled 9-10), corresponding Link/PoE status LEDs, and a power LED. A toggle switch for 'Extend' or 'Standard' mode is also visible on the left side.

  • PoE Ports (1-8): Eight 10/100 Mbps RJ45 ports that provide both data and power (PoE/PoE+) to connected devices.
  • Uplink Ports (9-10): Two 10/100 Mbps RJ45 ports for connecting to your main network infrastructure (NVR, router, etc.). These ports do not provide PoE.
  • LED Indicators:
    • PWR: Indicates power status. Lit when the switch is powered on.
    • LINK/ACT (for ports 1-10): Lit when a network link is established, blinks during data activity.
    • PoE (for ports 1-8): Lit when PoE power is being supplied to a connected device.
  • Extend/Standard Switch: Toggles between standard operation (100 meters max cable length, 100 Mbps) and Extend Mode (800 feet max cable length, 10 Mbps).

3.2 Rear Panel

The rear panel contains the power input and grounding point.

  • AC Power Input: Connector for the included power cord.
  • Grounding Screw: For connecting an earth ground wire to ensure electrical safety.

4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove the switch and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage during transit. If any components are missing or damaged, contact your vendor immediately.

4.2 Physical Placement

The switch can be placed on a desktop or mounted in a standard 19-inch server rack using the provided rack ear mounts.

  • Desktop Placement: Ensure the switch is placed on a stable, flat surface with adequate ventilation. Avoid placing it near heat sources or in enclosed spaces.
  • Rack Mounting:
    1. Attach the two rack ear mounts to the sides of the switch using the included screws.
    2. Secure the switch into an available slot in your server rack using appropriate rack screws (not included).

4.3 Network Connections

  1. Connect PoE Devices: Connect your IP cameras, IP phones, or other PoE-powered devices to any of the 8 PoE ports (ports 1-8) using standard Ethernet cables (Cat5e or better).
  2. Connect to Network: Connect one of the uplink ports (ports 9 or 10) to your NVR, server, or router using a standard Ethernet cable. These ports provide data connectivity to your main network.
  3. Power Connection: Connect the included power cord to the AC power input on the rear panel of the switch, and then plug it into a suitable power outlet.
  4. Grounding (Optional but Recommended): For enhanced electrical safety, connect a grounding wire from the grounding screw on the rear panel to an appropriate earth ground.

Note: Ensure all cable connections are secure before powering on the device.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On

Once all connections are made, plug the power cord into the electrical outlet. The switch will power on automatically. The PWR LED on the front panel should illuminate, indicating that the switch is receiving power.

5.2 LED Indicators

Monitor the LED indicators on the front panel to verify proper operation:

  • PWR LED:
    • Solid Green: The switch is powered on.
    • Off: The switch is not receiving power.
  • LINK/ACT LEDs (Ports 1-10):
    • Solid Green: A valid network link is established.
    • Blinking Green: Data is being transmitted or received.
    • Off: No network link or connection issue.
  • PoE LEDs (Ports 1-8):
    • Solid Green: PoE power is being supplied to the connected device.
    • Off: No PoE power is being supplied (either the device does not require PoE, or there is a connection issue).

5.3 Extend Mode Operation

The IPCP-8P2G-EXAF switch features an 'Extend' mode for longer cable runs:

  • Standard Mode: (Switch in 'Standard' position)
    • Maximum cable length for PoE ports: 100 meters (328 feet).
    • Maximum throughput per PoE port: 100 Mbps.
  • Extend Mode: (Switch in 'Extend' position)
    • Maximum cable length for PoE ports: 800 feet (243 meters).
    • Maximum throughput per PoE port: 10 Mbps.

Important: Switch to Extend Mode only when necessary for long cable runs, as it reduces the data throughput. Ensure the switch is powered off before changing the Extend/Standard mode setting.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the switch. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings are not blocked to prevent overheating. Although fanless, proper airflow is still important.
  • Cable Management: Keep network cables organized and free from kinks or excessive bends to maintain optimal performance.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your IPCamPower IPCP-8P2G-EXAF switch, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power (PWR LED Off):
    • Check if the power cord is securely connected to both the switch and the power outlet.
    • Verify that the power outlet is functional by plugging in another device.
  • No Link (LINK/ACT LED Off):
    • Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the switch port and the connected device.
    • Try a different Ethernet cable to rule out a faulty cable.
    • Verify that the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly.
  • PoE Not Working (PoE LED Off):
    • Confirm that the connected device is PoE-compatible (IEEE802.3af/at).
    • Check the total power budget (130 Watts). If too many high-power devices are connected, the switch may not be able to supply power to all of them.
    • Ensure the Ethernet cable is of good quality and properly terminated.
    • Try connecting the device to a different PoE port.
  • Slow Network Speed in Extend Mode:
    • This is expected behavior. In Extend Mode, the throughput for PoE ports is limited to 10 Mbps. If higher speeds are required, switch back to Standard Mode and ensure cable lengths are within 100 meters.

If the problem persists after trying these steps, contact IPCamPower technical support for further assistance.
