Tekin TT1159
Tekin RSX PRO Brushless ESC User Manual
Model: TT1159
1. Introduction
The Tekin RSX PRO is a high-performance electronic speed control (ESC) designed for 1/10 scale brushless and brushed motor applications. It offers precise control, advanced programmability, and robust power delivery for competitive RC racing and demanding hobby use. This manual provides essential information for proper setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your RSX PRO ESC.

Figure 1: Tekin RSX PRO Brushless Electronic Speed Control. This image displays the top view of the ESC, highlighting its integrated cooling fan, aluminum heat sink housing, and the "RSX PRO" and "Tekin" branding. Visible are the mode and increment buttons, and wiring ports.
2. Setup
2.1 Wiring Connections
Proper wiring is crucial for the performance and longevity of your ESC. Ensure all connections are secure and correctly polarized.
- Battery Connection: Connect your LiPo (2S-3S) or NiMH-NiCD (4-12S) battery pack to the ESC's battery input leads. Observe correct polarity (red to positive, black to negative).
- Motor Connection: For brushless motors, connect the three motor wires to the corresponding ESC motor outputs (A, B, C). For brushed motors, connect the two motor wires to the designated brushed motor outputs.
- Receiver Connection: Plug the ESC's receiver lead into the throttle channel (typically channel 2) of your RC receiver.
- Sensor Wire (for sensored motors): If using a sensored brushless motor, connect the sensor wire from the motor to the sensor port on the ESC.
2.2 Mounting the ESC
Securely mount the ESC in your vehicle to prevent damage from vibrations and impacts.
- Choose a location that allows for adequate airflow around the ESC's heat sink.
- Use double-sided foam tape or screws to firmly attach the ESC to the chassis.
- Ensure wires are routed neatly and are not pinched or subject to abrasion.
2.3 Initial Calibration
Before first use, calibrate the ESC to your radio system's throttle endpoints.
- Turn on your radio transmitter and ensure throttle trim is at neutral.
- With the ESC off, hold the "MODE" button on the ESC.
- Turn on the ESC. The LED will flash.
- Release the "MODE" button when the LED indicates calibration mode (refer to specific LED flash patterns in the full manual for precise indication).
- Set full throttle on your transmitter and press "MODE".
- Set full brake/reverse on your transmitter and press "MODE".
- Return throttle to neutral and press "MODE". The ESC is now calibrated.
3. Operation
3.1 Basic Operation
Once calibrated, the RSX PRO is ready for use. Power on your transmitter first, then the ESC. Power off the ESC first, then the transmitter.
- The ESC provides proportional forward, brake, and reverse control.
- The integrated cooling fan activates automatically to maintain optimal operating temperatures.
- The on-board temperature indicator provides visual feedback on the ESC's thermal status.
3.2 QuickTune Programming
The RSX PRO features QuickTune one-touch programming for on-the-fly adjustments. For advanced tuning and data logging, the optional HotWire programming port is available (sold separately).
| Feature Code | Description | Adjustment Range |
|---|---|---|
| DB | Drag Brake | 13 steps |
| BS | Brake Strength | 13 steps |
| LM | Torque Limiter | 7 steps |
| NW | Neutral Width | 13 steps |
| TP | Timing Profiles | 5 Preset - 2 Custom* |
| MT | Motor Type | Brushless Modes: FWD Only / FWD-REV / FWD-REV Delay / FWD-REV Delay REV Motor Direction Brushed Modes: FWD Only / FWD-REV / FWD-REV Delay |

4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your RSX PRO ESC.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the ESC, especially the cooling fan and heat sink, to remove dirt and debris. Use a soft brush or compressed air. Avoid using solvents or harsh chemicals.
- Inspections: Regularly inspect all wires and connectors for signs of wear, fraying, or corrosion. Ensure solder joints are secure.
- Storage: When not in use, store the ESC in a dry, cool environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Firmware Updates: Check the manufacturer's website for any available firmware updates to ensure your ESC has the latest features and bug fixes.
5. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your RSX PRO ESC.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| ESC not powering on. | Incorrect battery connection, discharged battery, faulty switch. | Check battery polarity and charge level. Inspect switch and connections. |
| Motor not responding to throttle. | Improper calibration, motor wires disconnected, receiver not bound. | Recalibrate ESC. Check motor and receiver connections. Ensure receiver is bound to transmitter. |
| ESC overheating. | Insufficient airflow, motor geared too high, damaged fan. | Ensure proper ventilation. Adjust gearing. Check cooling fan operation. |
| Erratic motor behavior. | Loose sensor wire (sensored mode), interference, motor issues. | Secure sensor wire. Check for radio interference. Inspect motor for damage. |
The ESC features self-diagnostics with error codes. Refer to the full Tekin RSX PRO manual for a complete list of error codes and their meanings.
