Setup Instructions

Setting up your TP-Link RE220 is a straightforward process. You can choose between two primary methods: using the WPS button or the TP-Link Tether app/web UI.

Method 1: WPS Button Setup (Recommended for quick setup)

  1. Plug In: Plug the RE220 into an electrical outlet near your main router. Wait for the Power LED to turn solid green.
  2. Press WPS on Router: Press the WPS button on your main Wi-Fi router.
  3. Press WPS on Extender: Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your RE220 extender. The Signal LED on the extender should change from blinking to solid, indicating a successful connection.
  4. Relocate: Once connected, you can unplug the RE220 and relocate it to a suitable spot between your router and the Wi-Fi dead zone. Ensure the Signal LED remains solid green for optimal performance.

Method 2: TP-Link Tether App or Web UI Setup

  1. Plug In: Plug the RE220 into an electrical outlet near your main router. Wait for the Power LED to turn solid green.
  2. Connect to Extender's Wi-Fi: On your smartphone or computer, connect to the Wi-Fi network broadcast by the extender (e.g., "TP-Link_Extender").
  3. Launch Tether App or Web Browser:

    • Web UI: Open a web browser and go to tplinkrepeater.net or 192.168.0.254. Create a login password and follow the on-screen instructions to connect the extender to your home network.

  • Extender's Wi-Fi Name: If you manually configured the extender's Wi-Fi name, ensure it's distinct from your main router's Wi-Fi name to avoid confusion, or ensure it's configured as a OneMesh network if applicable.
  • IP Address Conflict: In rare cases, an IP address conflict might occur. Try restarting both your router and the extender.

Slow Speed or Intermittent Connection

  • Optimal Placement: The most common cause of slow speeds is poor placement. The extender should be positioned roughly halfway between your router and the area needing extended coverage. The Signal LED should be solid green.
  • Interference: Other electronic devices (microwaves, cordless phones, Bluetooth devices) can cause interference. Try moving the extender away from such devices.
  • Network Congestion: If many devices are connected to your network, it can affect overall speed. The RE220 is designed to handle up to 30 devices, but overall internet speed is limited by your ISP.
  • Firmware: Ensure your extender's firmware is up to date.

WPS Setup Fails

  • Timing: Ensure you press the WPS button on the extender within two minutes of pressing it on the router.
  • Router WPS: Some routers require WPS to be enabled in their settings. Consult your router's manual.
  • Alternative Setup: If WPS continues to fail, use the TP-Link Tether app or web UI method for setup.

Factory Reset
