1. Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the safe and effective use of your FTVOGUE Refrigerant Halogen Freon Leak Detector, Model B07MZ8QDMB. This device is designed to detect leaks of various halogen-containing refrigerants, including CFCs (R12, R11, R500, R503), HCFCs (R22, R123, R124, R502), and HFCs (R134a, R404a, R125), as well as AZ-50 and MP39. It features adjustable sensitivity, an audible alarm, and an indicator light to pinpoint leak locations in systems such as automotive air conditioning and HVAC units.
2. Safety Information
Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating this device. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses and gloves, when working with refrigerants.
- Ensure adequate ventilation in the work area to prevent the accumulation of refrigerant gases.
- Do not expose the detector to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight.
- Keep the device away from water and other liquids.
- Do not attempt to repair or modify the device. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
- Dispose of batteries and the device according to local regulations.

Figure 4.2: Back view of the FTVOGUE Halogen Leak Detector, illustrating the ON/OFF switch, sensitivity adjustment dial (1-7), and buzzer indicator.
- Flexible Probe: Allows access to hard-to-reach areas for leak detection.
- Sensor Tip: The detection element located at the end of the flexible probe.
- ON/OFF Switch: Powers the device on or off.
- Sensitivity Adjustment Dial: A 7-level manual adjustment for detection sensitivity.
- Buzzer: Provides an audible alarm when a leak is detected.
- Indicator Light: A visual indicator that flashes more frequently as a leak is detected.
- Battery Compartment: Located at the bottom of the device for battery installation.
5. Setup
5.1 Battery Installation
The device requires batteries for operation. Follow these steps to install them:
- Locate the battery compartment cover at the bottom of the detector.
- Slide or unclip the cover to open the compartment.
- Insert the required batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
Video 5.1: This video demonstrates the process of installing batteries into the FTVOGUE Halogen Leak Detector and its initial power-on sequence, including the regular beeping and flashing of the indicator light.
6. Operation
6.1 Powering On and Initial Calibration
- Turn the ON/OFF switch to the "ON" position.
- The detector will emit a regular beeping sound, and the indicator light will flash regularly. This indicates the device is warming up and performing initial calibration.
- Allow approximately 6 seconds for the detector to stabilize and enter the detection state.
6.2 Adjusting Sensitivity
The detector features a 7-level manual adjustable sensitivity. Turn the sensitivity adjustment dial to a suitable degree based on the expected leak size and environmental conditions. Higher numbers indicate higher sensitivity.
6.3 Leak Detection Procedure
- With the detector powered on and calibrated, slowly move the flexible probe around the suspected leak area.
- When the sensor detects halogen gas, the beeping sound will become more frequent, and the indicator light will flash more rapidly. The frequency of the beeps and flashes correlates with the concentration of the detected gas.
- Continue to move the probe to pinpoint the exact source of the leak. The highest frequency of beeps and flashes indicates the leak's origin.
- If the detector moves away from the leak source, the beeping and flashing will return to their regular, slower pace.
- The detector has a boot reset and automatic follow function, allowing it to ignore ambient halogen gas concentrations and focus on new leak sources.
6.4 Supported Refrigerants
This detector is capable of testing all refrigerants that contain halogen, including:
- CFCs: R12, R11, R500, R503
- HCFCs: R22, R123, R124, R502
- HFCs: R134a, R404a, R125
- Also tests AZ-50, MP39.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the detector with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Sensor Care: Keep the sensor tip clean and free from debris. Avoid touching the sensor directly.
- Storage: Store the detector in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage.
- Sensor Replacement: The sensor has a long life expectancy. If detection accuracy degrades significantly over time, the sensor may need replacement. Contact customer support for assistance.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not power on. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Check battery polarity and replace with fresh batteries. |
| No alarm when a leak is suspected. | Sensitivity setting is too low; sensor is dirty or damaged. | Increase sensitivity using the dial. Clean the sensor tip. If problem persists, sensor may need replacement. |
| Constant alarm without a leak. | High ambient concentration of halogen gases; sensitivity too high. | Move to a well-ventilated area. Reduce sensitivity. Allow device to recalibrate. |
