4. Setup Guide

4.1. Power Supply

The tester requires a 9V battery (not included) for operation. Locate the battery compartment, typically on the back of the main unit, and insert a fresh 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity. Secure the battery compartment cover.

4.2. Initial Inspection

Before first use, ensure the device is clean and free from visible damage. Confirm that the ON/OFF switch operates smoothly and that the RJ45 and RJ11 ports are clear of obstructions.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Basic Cable Testing (RJ45/RJ11)

  1. Ensure the tester is powered off.
  2. Connect one end of the network cable (RJ45 or RJ11) to the 'MASTER' unit's corresponding port.
  3. Connect the other end of the cable to the 'REMOTE' unit's corresponding port.
  4. Slide the power switch to the 'ON' position.
  5. Observe the LED indicators on both the MASTER and REMOTE units.

5.2. Interpreting LED Indicators

  • LEDs illuminate sequentially from 1 to 8 (and G for ground) on both units.
  • Correct Wiring: LEDs on both units light up in the same sequence (e.g., MASTER 1 lights up with REMOTE 1, MASTER 2 with REMOTE 2, etc.).
  • Open Circuit: An LED on either unit fails to light up for a specific pin, indicating a break in that wire.
  • Short Circuit: Multiple LEDs light up simultaneously or in an incorrect sequence, indicating wires are touching.
  • Crossed Wires: LEDs light up in a different sequence (e.g., MASTER 1 lights up with REMOTE 2, MASTER 2 with REMOTE 1), indicating wires are swapped.

5.3. Testing Long Cables (Detachable Unit)

For cables already installed or too long to bring both ends together, detach the REMOTE unit from the MASTER unit. Connect one end of the cable to the MASTER unit and the other end to the REMOTE unit at the distant location. Proceed with testing as described in section 5.1.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the tester in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove the 9V battery to prevent leakage.
  • Battery Replacement: When the LED indicators become dim or the device fails to power on, replace the 9V battery.
