Figure 1: The Makerfire 200A High Precision Power Analyzer Wattmeter, showing its LCD display with current and voltage readings.

This wattmeter conveniently calculates and displays voltage, current, power, charge (Amp-hour), and discharge time. It also captures and records peak current (Ap), maximum power (Wp), and minimum voltage (Vm) during operation, providing critical data for system performance evaluation and protection.

2. Safety Precautions

To ensure safe operation and prevent damage to the device or personal injury, please observe the following precautions:

  • Voltage and Current Limits: Do not exceed the maximum voltage of 60V or the maximum current of 200A. Exceeding these limits will damage the wattmeter and may cause personal injury.
  • Protective Equipment: Always use appropriate safety equipment when working with electrical systems.
  • Proper Control: Ensure that current and voltage are properly controlled for your specific application.
  • Inline Use Only: The wattmeter is designed as an inline meter for measurement purposes. Do not use it as a power supply.
  • Secure Connections: Loose connections can lead to component damage and inaccurate readings. Ensure all connections are secure.

4. Setup and Connections

The wattmeter is designed for inline measurement. Connect it between your power source (e.g., battery, solar panel) and your load (e.g., motor, RC aircraft). Ensure correct polarity and secure connections.

  • Source Connection: Connect the "SOURCE" side of the wattmeter to your power source. The red wire is positive (+), and the black wire is negative (-).
  • Load Connection: Connect the "LOAD" side of the wattmeter to your device or system that consumes power. The red wire is positive (+), and the black wire is negative (-).
  • Auxiliary Battery (Optional): For measurements at 0V or for powering the display when the main circuit voltage is too low, an optional auxiliary battery (6.0V-60V) can be connected to the dedicated port.

5. Operating Instructions

Once connected, the wattmeter will automatically power on and display real-time measurements on its LCD screen. The display shows various parameters simultaneously.

5.1. Display Readings

The LCD screen provides the following information:

  • Current (A): Instantaneous current flow in Amperes.
  • Voltage (V): Instantaneous voltage in Volts.
  • Power (W): Instantaneous power consumption in Watts.
  • Charge (Ah): Accumulated charge in Amp-hours. This value accumulates until reset or power off.
  • Energy (Wh): Accumulated energy in Watt-hours. This value accumulates until reset or power off.
  • Peak Current (Ap): The highest current recorded during the measurement period.
  • Maximum Power (Wp): The highest power recorded during the measurement period.
  • Minimum Voltage (Vm): The lowest voltage recorded during the measurement period.

5.2. Resetting Accumulated Values

The accumulated Charge (Ah) and Energy (Wh) values will reset when the device is powered off or manually reset. Refer to the included English manual for specific instructions on manual reset procedures, if available.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your wattmeter, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the wattmeter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Connections: Periodically check all connections for tightness and signs of wear or corrosion.
  • Avoid Impact: Protect the device from drops and impacts, which can damage internal components or the LCD screen.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your wattmeter, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Display is blankNo power to the device; voltage too low; incorrect polarity.Ensure the power source is connected and active. Check if the voltage is within the 4.8V-60V operating range. Verify correct positive (+) and negative (-) connections. Consider using an auxiliary battery if the main circuit voltage is too low.
Inaccurate readingsLoose connections; damaged wires; device malfunction.Check all connections for tightness. Inspect wires for any damage. If issues persist, contact customer support.
Device not accumulating Ah/WhDevice was powered off; no current flow.Accumulated values reset upon power off. Ensure there is active current flow through the device for accumulation.
OverheatingExceeding current limits; poor ventilation.Ensure the current does not exceed 200A. Verify that the ventilation holes are not obstructed. Reduce load if necessary.
