1. Product Overview

The SecureData SecureUSB KP is an 8GB encrypted flash drive designed for secure data storage with keypad PIN authentication. It features full disk hardware encryption, FIPS 140-2 compliant design, and is resistant to dust and water (IP 57 certified). The drive operates independently of any operating system or platform, requiring no drivers or software installation.

2. Setup and Initial Configuration

Upon first use, you will need to set up an Admin PIN. This PIN is crucial for managing the device and creating User PINs. Refer to the included Quick Start Guide for detailed initial setup instructions.

2.1 Creating an Admin PIN

The Admin PIN must be between 7 and 15 digits. Avoid repetitive or consecutive number sequences for enhanced security.

2.2 Creating a User PIN

After setting up the Admin PIN, you can create one or more User PINs. User PINs allow access to the drive's data without full administrative privileges. User PINs also must be between 7 and 15 digits and should not contain repetitive or consecutive number sequences.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Unlocking the Drive

1. Press the Key button once to activate the keypad.
2. Enter your Admin or User PIN.
3. Press the Key button again to unlock. The green LED will illuminate, indicating the drive is unlocked and ready for use.

3.2 Locking the Drive

The drive will automatically lock after a period of inactivity (Auto-Lock Mode, configurable). To manually lock the drive:

• Press and hold the Lock button until the red LED illuminates.
• Alternatively, safely eject the drive from your computer. The drive will automatically lock upon ejection.

3.3 Enabling Read-Only Mode

Read-Only Mode prevents any data from being written to or modified on the drive, protecting against malware and accidental deletion. To enable Read-Only Mode:

1. Unlock the drive with your PIN.
2. Press the Key button three times.
3. When the solid green LED switches to blinking green and blue, press the 7 button, then the 6 button, followed by the Key button to save. The green and blue blinking LEDs will change to a solid red, then a solid green, indicating Read-Only Mode is enabled.

3.4 Disabling Read-Only Mode

To return to Read-Write Mode:

1. Unlock the drive with your PIN.
2. Press the Key button three times.
3. When the solid green LED switches to blinking green and blue, press the 7 button, then the 9 button, followed by the Key button to save. The LEDs will indicate the change back to Read-Write Mode.

The SecureUSB KP is engineered with multiple layers of security to protect your data.

4.1 FIPS 140-2 Compliant Design

The drive features a FIPS 140-2 compliant design, ensuring robust hardware encryption. All user data and crypto parameters are encrypted. Critical electronic components are covered with a tough epoxy coating, making physical tampering and reverse engineering extremely difficult without destroying the device.

4.2 Brute Force Anti-Hacking Self-Destruct Feature

To protect against brute-force attacks, the device will trigger a data and PIN information deletion after 10 consecutive incorrect PIN attempts. This feature is designed to safeguard your data from unauthorized access.

4.3 Preloaded Antivirus

The SecureUSB KP comes preloaded with a 1-year license for USB Antivirus by ESET. This real-time heuristic scanning engine helps keep your drive virus-free, even when not connected to the internet, by recognizing and denying malicious files from being saved to the drive.

5. Resetting Your Device

In the event that both the User and Admin PINs are forgotten, a full reset of the device is necessary. WARNING: Performing a full reset will completely wipe all data stored on your drive. This should be considered a last resort.

5.1 Full Device Reset

1. While pressing and holding down the 7 button, press the Key button once.
2. Release both buttons simultaneously. The red and green LEDs will alternate on and off.
3. Press the 9 button three times.
4. Press and hold down the 7 button, then press the Key button.
5. Release both buttons simultaneously. The blinking LEDs will switch to solid before the green LED turns off, while the red LED fades out. This indicates a successful reset.

After a full reset, you will need to create a new Admin PIN and any desired User PINs as per the initial setup process.

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your SecureUSB KP.

6.1 PIN Entry Issues

• Flaky Operation: If the drive requires multiple PIN entries to unlock, ensure each key press is firm and deliberate. The small, stiff keys may require precise input.
• No Feedback on Key Press: The device does not provide individual key press feedback. Ensure you are pressing the correct keys within the 10-second entry window.
• PIN Length: User and Admin PINs must be between 7 and 15 digits. Shorter PINs will not be accepted.

6.2 Data Loss Prevention

• Forgotten PINs: If both Admin and User PINs are forgotten, a full device reset is the only option, resulting in permanent data loss. Securely store your PINs in a separate, safe location.
• Brute Force Protection: After 10 consecutive incorrect PIN attempts, the drive will wipe all data. This is a security feature, not a malfunction.

DriveSecurity® comes with a 1-year license. If the User PIN is forgotten, there are no techniques to retrieve the key. All data will be erased permanently, as there are absolutely no back-doors.
