Setup Guide
1. Hard Drive Installation
Follow these steps to install your 3.5-inch SATA HDD or SSD into the enclosure:
- Gently slide the inner tray out of the aluminum enclosure.
- Insert your 3.5-inch SATA HDD/SSD into the inner tray, ensuring the SATA connectors align properly.
- Secure the HDD/SSD to the inner tray using the two short screws provided.
- Slide the assembled tray back into the aluminum enclosure until it is fully seated.
- Tighten the enclosure using the two long screws provided to secure the inner tray within the outer casing.

Note: If installing a 2.5-inch hard drive, the screw holes may not align. In such cases, use a suitable method (e.g., tape) to fix the drive in place to prevent movement.
2. Connecting to Your Computer
Connect the enclosure to your computer using the provided USB 3.0 cable. For optimal performance and to utilize UASP speed, ensure you connect the enclosure to a USB 3.0 port on your computer.

3. Power Connection
Connect the 12V/2A power adapter to the DC Jack on the enclosure and then plug it into a power outlet. The enclosure requires external power for operation.

4. Initializing and Formatting New Drives
If you are using a new HDD or SSD that has never been formatted, your computer may not detect it until it is initialized and formatted. Follow these general steps:
- Right-click on 'This PC' (or 'My Computer') and select 'Manage'.
- In the Computer Management window, navigate to 'Disk Management'.
- Locate your new hard drive, which will likely appear as 'Unallocated Space'.
- Right-click on the unallocated space and select 'Initialize Disk'. Choose GPT for drives larger than 2TB, or MBR for drives 2TB or smaller.
- After initialization, right-click on the unallocated space again and select 'New Simple Volume' to create a partition and format the drive. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.
Important: If there is existing data on the hard drive, ensure you back it up before formatting, as formatting will erase all data.

Operating Instructions
Power On/Off
- To turn on the enclosure, lightly press the power button located on the front panel.
- To turn off the enclosure, press and hold the power button for approximately 3 seconds. This electronic power button design helps protect the hard disk from accidental shutdowns.
LED Indicators
The enclosure features two LED indicators:
- Red LED: Indicates power status.
- Blue LED: Indicates hard drive activity (flashes during data transfer).
Data Transfer and UASP
The RSHTECH RSH-339 supports USB 3.0 with a maximum transfer speed of 6Gbps. It also supports the UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) for accelerated data transfer, especially with SSDs. To benefit from UASP, ensure your computer's operating system and USB host controller support the UASP protocol.

Automatic Sleep Mode
The enclosure is designed with an automatic sleep function. If there is no data access activity for 10 minutes, the enclosure will enter sleep mode to conserve power and extend the lifespan of your hard drive. The drive will automatically wake up upon data access.
Safely Removing Hardware
To prevent data loss or corruption, always safely remove the hard drive enclosure from your computer before unplugging the USB cable or power adapter. In Windows, click the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon in the system tray and select the appropriate device.
Maintenance
Cooling and Ventilation
The aluminum alloy casing and integrated vents contribute to efficient heat dissipation. For optimal cooling, especially during prolonged use, utilize the provided ABS bracket to position the enclosure vertically. This allows for better airflow through the vents.
Cleaning
To clean the enclosure, use a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as they may damage the surface or internal components.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your RSHTECH Hard Drive Enclosure, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:
HDD/SSD Not Recognized by the Computer
- New or Unformatted Drive: If the HDD/SSD is new or has never been formatted, it needs to be initialized and formatted through Disk Management (refer to the "Initializing and Formatting New Drives" section in Setup Guide).
- Unallocated Space: Check Disk Management to see if the hard drive appears as 'Unallocated Space'. If so, create a new partition and format it.
- Loose Connections: Ensure all cables (USB and power) are securely connected to both the enclosure and the computer/power outlet.
- Insufficient Power: Verify that the correct 12V/2A power adapter is used and properly connected.
- Driver Issues: While typically plug-and-play, ensure your operating system has the necessary USB drivers updated.
- Faulty Drive: Test the hard drive in another enclosure or directly connect it to a computer (if possible) to rule out a drive malfunction.
- Faulty USB Port: Try connecting the enclosure to a different USB port on your computer.
Slow Data Transfer Speeds
- USB 3.0 Connection: Ensure the enclosure is connected to a USB 3.0 port on your computer. Connecting to a USB 2.0 port will result in significantly lower speeds.
- UASP Support: Confirm that your computer's operating system and USB host controller support the UASP protocol for optimal performance.
- Drive Speed: The actual transfer speed is also limited by the speed of the installed HDD/SSD.
