Safety Information
Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury and damage to the instrument:
- Do not use the meter if it appears damaged or is operating abnormally.
- Ensure the correct function and range are selected before making measurements.
- Do not exceed the maximum input ratings for any range.
- Always disconnect the test leads from the circuit before changing functions or ranges.
- Replace batteries and fuses only with the specified type and rating.
- Observe all local and national safety codes.
WARNING: Risk of electric shock. Do not touch live circuits.
Setup
1. Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
- Unscrew the retaining screw(s) and remove the cover.
- Insert one R6 (AA) battery, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw(s).
2. Test Lead Connection
For voltage and resistance measurements, connect the test leads:
- Insert the red test lead into the "V" or "Ω" input jack.
- Insert the black test lead into the "COM" (common) input jack.
Operating Instructions
1. AC Current Measurement (Clamp Function)
- Set the rotary switch to the desired AC.A (AC Current) range (e.g., 6A, 15A, 60A, 150A, 300A, 600A).
- Open the clamp jaws by pressing the lever.
- Enclose only one conductor of the circuit to be measured within the jaws. Ensure the jaws are fully closed.
- Read the current value on the analogue display.
2. AC Voltage Measurement
- Connect the test leads as described in "Test Lead Connection".
- Set the rotary switch to the AC.V 150V or AC.V 600V range.
- Connect the test leads in parallel to the circuit or component to be measured.
- Read the voltage value on the analogue display.
3. DC Voltage Measurement
- Connect the test leads as described in "Test Lead Connection".
- Set the rotary switch to the DC60V range.
- Connect the test leads in parallel to the DC circuit or component, observing polarity.
- Read the voltage value on the analogue display.
4. Resistance Measurement
- Connect the test leads as described in "Test Lead Connection".
- Set the rotary switch to the "Ω" range (e.g., x1Ω, x10Ω, x100Ω).
- Before measuring, short the test leads together and adjust the "Ω ADJ" knob to set the pointer to zero.
- Connect the test leads across the component to be measured (ensure the circuit is de-energized).
- Read the resistance value on the analogue display and multiply by the selected range multiplier.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
Wipe the meter with a dry, clean cloth. Do not use abrasives or solvents.
2. Fuse Replacement
If the fuse blows, replace it with a fuse of the specified type and rating (0.5A/600V, Model 8923). Refer to the "Setup" section for accessing the battery/fuse compartment.
3. Battery Replacement
Replace the battery when the low battery indicator appears or the meter functions become erratic. Refer to the "Setup" section for battery installation instructions.
4. Storage
When not in use for extended periods, remove the battery to prevent leakage. Store the meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Meter does not power on. | Dead or incorrectly installed battery. | Check battery polarity; replace battery. |
| No reading in resistance mode. | Blown fuse; open circuit; incorrect range. | Check/replace fuse; ensure circuit is closed; select appropriate range. |
| Inaccurate readings. | Low battery; improper connection; meter calibration required. | Replace battery; ensure secure connections; contact service center for calibration. |
| Clamp jaws not closing properly. | Obstruction in jaws; mechanical damage. | Clear any obstruction; if damaged, contact service center. |
