- Crown: Used for setting the time and date.
- Pusher A (Top): Starts and stops the chronograph.
- Pusher B (Bottom): Resets the chronograph.
- Hour/Minute Hands: Indicate the current time.
- Small Seconds Hand: Continuous seconds for timekeeping (usually on a sub-dial).
- Chronograph Seconds Hand: Large central hand for chronograph timing.
- Chronograph Minute/Hour Sub-dials: Record elapsed minutes and hours during chronograph operation.
- Date Window: Displays the current date.
3. Setup
3.1. Setting the Time
- Pull the crown out to the second click position (farthest out). The small seconds hand will stop.
- Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands. Ensure you set the correct AM/PM time (observe the date change around midnight).
- Once the time is set, push the crown back into the normal position. The small seconds hand will resume movement.
3.2. Setting the Date
- Pull the crown out to the first click position.
- Rotate the crown (usually clockwise or counter-clockwise, depending on the movement) to set the desired date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can interfere with the date change mechanism.
- Once the date is set, push the crown back into the normal position.
3.3. Chronograph Hand Reset (Zero Position Adjustment)
If the chronograph hands (seconds, minutes, or hours) do not return to their zero position after resetting, they may need adjustment.
- Pull the crown out to the second click position.
- Press Pusher A (top) to adjust the chronograph seconds hand. Each press moves the hand by one increment.
- Press Pusher B (bottom) to adjust the chronograph minute/hour hands. Each press moves the hand by one increment.
- Once all chronograph hands are aligned to their zero positions, push the crown back into the normal position.
4. Operating the Chronograph
The chronograph function allows you to measure elapsed time independently of the main time display.
- Start: Press Pusher A (top) to start the chronograph. The large central seconds hand and the chronograph sub-dials will begin to move.
- Stop: Press Pusher A again to stop the chronograph. The elapsed time can be read from the central seconds hand and the minute/hour sub-dials.
- Reset: After stopping, press Pusher B (bottom) to reset all chronograph hands to their zero positions.
- Intermediate (Split) Time: Some chronographs allow for split time measurement. If your model supports this, press Pusher B while the chronograph is running to temporarily stop the hands for reading, then press Pusher B again to catch up to the running time. (Note: This specific model's functionality may vary; refer to the movement's specific instructions if available.)
5. Maintenance
5.1. Cleaning
Regular cleaning helps maintain the appearance and hygiene of your watch. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the case and crystal. For the nylon strap, a mild soap solution and a soft brush can be used, followed by thorough rinsing and air drying. Ensure the crown is pushed in completely before any cleaning involving moisture.
5.2. Water Resistance
Your Jack Mason JM-A102-405 watch is water resistant to 100 meters (330 feet). This rating makes it suitable for swimming, showering, and snorkeling. However, it is not suitable for scuba diving. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before exposing the watch to water. Do not operate the crown or pushers while the watch is wet or submerged, as this can compromise the water resistance.
5.3. Battery Replacement
The watch is powered by a quartz movement and requires a battery. The typical battery life is 2-3 years. When the battery needs replacement, it is recommended to take your watch to an authorized Jack Mason service center or a reputable watchmaker. They will ensure the correct battery type is used and the water resistance seal is properly re-installed.
5.4. General Care
- Avoid exposing the watch to extreme temperatures or sudden temperature changes.
- Keep the watch away from strong magnetic fields, which can affect the accuracy of the quartz movement.
- Avoid strong impacts or drops.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1. Watch Not Running
- Check the Crown: Ensure the crown is fully pushed into the normal position.
- Battery: The battery may be depleted. Refer to Section 5.3 for battery replacement.
6.2. Chronograph Hands Not Resetting to Zero
- Adjustment: Perform the chronograph hand reset procedure described in Section 3.3.
6.3. Date Not Changing
- Time Setting: Ensure the time is set correctly for AM/PM. The date typically changes around midnight.
- Date Setting Window: Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM.
If problems persist, please contact Jack Mason customer support or an authorized service center.
