Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to brew coffee:

  1. Open the coffee maker lid.
  2. Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water up to the desired 5-cup level using the Easy-View Water Window. Do not exceed the maximum fill line.
  3. Place a basket-style paper filter into the removable brew basket. If using a permanent filter, ensure it is clean and properly seated.
  4. Add the desired amount of ground coffee to the filter. A general guideline is 1 tablespoon of ground coffee per cup (5 oz.) of water, adjusted to personal preference.
  5. Slide the brew basket into its holder and close the lid securely.
  6. Place the empty Duralife™ glass carafe with its lid on the warming plate. Ensure the carafe is properly seated to activate the drip-stop mechanism.

Brew Strength Selector

This coffee maker features a brew strength selector to customize your coffee's flavor and intensity.

  • Depending on the model, this may be a dial or a button. Refer to your specific unit for its location.
  • Select Regular for a standard coffee flavor.
  • Select Bold or Strong for a more intense coffee flavor. This setting typically slows down the brewing process slightly to allow for greater extraction.

Adjust the setting before starting the brew cycle.

Sneak-A-Cup™ Feature

The Sneak-A-Cup™ feature allows you to pour a cup of coffee before the entire brewing cycle is complete.

  • During the brewing cycle, you can temporarily remove the carafe from the warming plate. The flow of coffee from the brew basket will automatically stop.
  • Pour your desired amount of coffee.
  • Immediately return the carafe to the warming plate. If the carafe is not replaced within approximately 20 seconds, the brew basket may overflow.
  • The brewing process will resume once the carafe is back in place.

Care and Cleaning

Regular cleaning helps maintain the performance and longevity of your coffee maker.

Daily Cleaning

  • Always unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Wash the Duralife™ glass carafe and removable brew basket in warm, soapy water. These parts are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
  • Wipe the exterior surfaces of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  • Do not immerse the coffee maker in water or any other liquid.

Decalcification (Mineral Deposit Removal)

Mineral deposits (calcium and lime) can build up in your coffee maker over time, affecting its performance. Decalcify your coffee maker every 60-80 uses, or more frequently in hard water areas.

  1. Pour 4 cups of undiluted white vinegar into the water reservoir.
  2. Place an empty paper filter in the brew basket and close the lid.
  3. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
  4. Turn on the coffee maker and allow half of the vinegar solution to brew through.
  5. Turn off the coffee maker and let it soak for at least 15 minutes to soften deposits.
  6. Turn on the coffee maker again and brew the remaining vinegar solution.
  7. Once the cycle is complete, turn off the coffee maker and empty the carafe.
  8. Fill the water reservoir with clean water and run a full brewing cycle to rinse the system. Repeat this rinsing cycle two more times with fresh water.
