Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance and safety. If you are unsure about any steps, it is recommended to seek professional assistance.
- Safety First: Ensure the engine is cool and the vehicle is stable. Disconnect the battery if necessary.
- Remove Old Carburetor: Carefully disconnect the fuel line, throttle cable, and any vacuum lines from the old carburetor. Remove mounting bolts and detach the old unit.
- Install New Gaskets: Clean the mounting surfaces. Place the new gaskets and O-ring (if applicable) between the engine intake manifold and the new carburetor to ensure a proper seal.
- Mount New Carburetor: Position the new PZ20 carburetor and secure it with the mounting bolts. Do not overtighten.
- Connect Lines: Reattach the fuel line, throttle cable, and any vacuum lines to their respective ports on the new carburetor. Ensure all connections are secure and free of leaks.
- Install Air Filter: Attach the new air filter to the carburetor intake. Use the provided clamp to secure it tightly.
- Install Fuel Filter: If replacing, install the new fuel filter in the fuel line between the fuel tank and the carburetor, ensuring correct flow direction.
- Initial Checks: Before starting, check all connections, ensure no tools are left in the engine bay, and verify fuel flow.

Operating Instructions
After installation, follow these general steps for operating your vehicle with the new carburetor:
- Fuel Supply: Ensure there is sufficient fuel in the tank and the fuel petcock (if present) is in the 'ON' position.
- Choke Operation: For cold starts, engage the choke lever (typically by pulling it out or moving it to the 'ON' position).
- Starting the Engine: Start the engine using the electric starter or kick-start.
- Warm-up: Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes. Gradually disengage the choke as the engine warms and idles smoothly.
- Throttle Control: Test throttle response gently. The engine should rev smoothly without hesitation or bogging.
- Idle Adjustment: If the idle is too high or too low, adjust the idle screw on the carburetor until a stable idle speed is achieved.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps prolong the life of your carburetor and ensures consistent engine performance.
- Air Filter: Regularly inspect and clean or replace the air filter. A dirty air filter can restrict airflow and affect engine performance.
- Fuel Filter: Check the fuel filter periodically for debris. Replace it if it appears clogged or dirty to prevent contaminants from reaching the carburetor.
- Fuel Quality: Use clean, fresh fuel. Stale or contaminated fuel can cause carburetor issues.
- Carburetor Cleaning: If performance issues arise, the carburetor may need cleaning. This typically involves disassembling the carburetor, cleaning jets and passages with carburetor cleaner, and reassembling with new gaskets if necessary.
- Idle and Mixture Adjustment: Periodically check and adjust the idle speed and air-fuel mixture screw as needed to maintain optimal engine operation.
Troubleshooting
Here are some common issues and potential solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine won't start | No fuel, clogged fuel filter, incorrect choke setting, fouled spark plug | Check fuel level, replace fuel filter, adjust choke, inspect/replace spark plug |
| Engine runs rough/stalls | Dirty carburetor jets, improper air-fuel mixture, vacuum leak | Clean carburetor, adjust mixture screw, check for loose connections/cracked hoses |
| Lack of power/hesitation | Restricted air filter, clogged fuel filter, incorrect jetting | Clean/replace air filter, replace fuel filter, consult a mechanic for jetting adjustment |
| Fuel leaks | Loose fuel line, damaged O-ring/gasket, stuck float | Tighten connections, replace O-ring/gasket, clean float bowl/check float level |
If these steps do not resolve the issue, it is recommended to consult a qualified mechanic.
