Product Overview

The CRAFTSMAN V20 Cordless Drill/Driver Kit (CMCD700C1) is designed for a variety of drilling and driving applications. It features a high-performance motor and a compact design for ease of use.

Setup Instructions

1. Charging the Battery

1. Connect the V20 Lithium Charger to a standard electrical outlet.
2. Slide the V20 Lithium Ion Battery into the charger until it clicks into place.
3. Allow the battery to charge fully. The charger indicator light will change to indicate a full charge (refer to charger manual for specific light patterns). A full charge typically takes 60 minutes or less.
4. Once charged, remove the battery from the charger.

2. Installing the Battery

1. Align the charged V20 Lithium Ion Battery with the base of the drill/driver handle.
2. Slide the battery into the handle until it securely latches into place. Ensure it is firmly seated to prevent accidental dislodgement during operation.

3. Installing a Drill Bit or Driver Bit

1. Grasp the front half of the 1/2-inch keyless chuck and rotate it counter-clockwise to open the chuck jaws.
2. Insert the desired drill bit or driver bit into the chuck, ensuring it is centered.
3. Rotate the front half of the chuck clockwise to tighten the jaws firmly around the bit. Hand-tighten only; do not use tools to tighten the chuck.

Operating Instructions

1. Selecting Speed and Torque

• Speed Selector: Use the speed selector switch located on top of the drill to choose between two speed settings:
  • Speed 1 (0-350 RPM): For high torque applications such as driving screws or drilling large holes.
  • Speed 2 (0-1,500 RPM): For high-speed drilling in softer materials or smaller holes.
• Clutch/Torque Collar: Rotate the adjustable torque collar (numbered 1-15, plus drill mode) to set the desired torque.
  • Lower settings (1-5) are for driving small screws or working with soft materials.
  • Medium settings (6-10) are for driving medium screws or working with medium-density materials.
  • Higher settings (11-15) are for driving large screws or working with hard materials.
  • The drill symbol setting bypasses the clutch for maximum torque, ideal for drilling applications.

2. Starting and Stopping

• Trigger Switch: Squeeze the trigger switch to start the drill. The speed is variable; the more you squeeze, the faster the drill operates.
• LED Work Light: The integrated LED work light activates when the trigger is pressed, illuminating the work surface.
• Forward/Reverse Button: Push the button located above the trigger to the left for forward rotation (drilling/driving screws in) or to the right for reverse rotation (removing screws). Center position locks the trigger for safety.
• Stopping: Release the trigger switch to stop the drill.

3. General Operation Tips

• Always hold the drill firmly with both hands, especially when drilling large holes or driving long screws.
• Apply steady, even pressure. Do not force the drill.
• For drilling, start with a slow speed to create a pilot hole, then increase speed as needed.
• For driving screws, select a torque setting that allows the screw to be driven fully without stripping the screw head or damaging the workpiece.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your CRAFTSMAN V20 Drill/Driver.

1. Cleaning

• After each use, wipe the tool with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
• Keep the ventilation slots clear of dust and debris to prevent overheating. Use compressed air if necessary.
• Clean the chuck jaws regularly to ensure proper gripping of bits.

2. Battery Care

• Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
• Do not store batteries in a discharged state for extended periods. Recharge them periodically if not in use.
• Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the battery pack.

3. Storage

• Always remove the battery pack from the drill/driver before storing.
• Store the tool and battery in a secure, dry location out of reach of children.
• If using the Versatrack system, ensure the tool is securely hung.
