Operating Instructions
Starting the Motor Grader
Once the motor grader has started, allow the accelerator pedal to reach its extreme position. To achieve the desired working speed, pull back on the governor control lever or press down on the accelerator lever pad.

Figure 6: This image illustrates the operator's hand engaging with the accelerator lever pad, which is used to adjust the motor grader's working speed.
Important Operating Notes
- Tandem Tires: Avoid spinning tandem tires. Spinning tires can cause a digging action, damage road surfaces, and lead to excessive tire wear.
- Gear Shifting: To prevent gears from clashing when shifting to a higher gear, depress the clutch pedal. Allow 3 to 4 seconds to elapse before engaging the shift levers.
Engine Shut-Down Procedures
Cummins Engine
- Ensure gear shift levers are in the neutral position.
- Press down on the button located in the center of the governor control lever knob.
- Push the lever forward to the idling position.
- Allow the engine to run for a few minutes.
- Turn the key in the ignition switch counter-clockwise to the shut-down position. This action de-activates the solenoid shut-down valve on the fuel pump.
Note: For additional information regarding the solenoid shut-down valve, refer to the Engine Manufacturer's Operators and Maintenance Manual.
General Motors Engine

Instrument Panel Overview
Figure 7 provides a view of the instrument panel, located on the left side of the power box.

Figure 7: This image displays the instrument panel, showing various gauges essential for monitoring the grader's operation.
Gauge Descriptions
- Oil Gauge: The oil pressure gauge must indicate pressure while the engine is running. Consult the Engine Manufacturer's Operators and Maintenance Manuals for specific correct pressure readings.
- Ammeter: The amperes gauge should not show discharge or fluctuate when the engine is operating at normal speeds. If the gauge indicates fluctuation or discharge, contact your LeTourneau-Westinghouse Distributor for service.
- Temperature Gauge: The temperature gauge displays the water temperature in the engine. Refer to the Engine Manufacturer's Operators and Maintenance Manual for correct readings.
