Setup

1. Pre-installation Checklist

  • Confirm you have a neutral wire (usually white) in your wall box.
  • Ensure you are replacing a single-pole switch (controls lights from one location).
  • Turn off power at the circuit breaker before starting.
  • Have basic electrical tools: screwdriver, wire strippers, voltage tester.

2. Wiring Installation

Follow the diagram carefully. If you are not comfortable with electrical wiring, please consult a qualified electrician.

  1. Turn off power: Locate your circuit breaker and turn off the power to the switch you are replacing. Verify power is off with a voltage tester.
  2. Remove old switch: Carefully remove the old switch from the wall box.
  3. Identify wires: Identify the Live (Hot), Load, Neutral, and Ground wires. The neutral wire is typically white, and the ground wire is green or bare copper.
  4. Connect wires: Use the provided wire nuts to connect the TESSAN Smart Dimmer Switch wires to your home's wiring according to the diagram:
    • Connect the Live Wire from the wall to the Live wire on the switch.
    • Connect the Load Wire from the wall (going to the lights) to the Load wire on the switch.
    • Connect the Neutral Wire from the wall to the Neutral wire on the switch.
    • Connect the Ground Wire from the wall to the Ground wire on the switch.
  5. Mount the switch: Gently push the wired switch into the wall box. Secure it with the mounting screws. Attach the wall plate.
  6. Restore power: Turn the power back on at the circuit breaker. The indicator light on the switch should blink, indicating it's ready for app pairing.

3. App Installation & Pairing

The TESSAN Smart Dimmer Switch works with the Smart Life app (available for iOS and Android).

  1. Download App: Search for "Smart Life" in the App Store or Google Play Store and download it.
  2. Register/Login: Open the app and register a new account or log in with an existing one.
  3. Add Device: Tap the "+" icon in the top right corner to add a device. Select "Lighting" > "Wall Switch (Wi-Fi)" or "Dimmer Switch (Wi-Fi)".
  4. Confirm Indicator: Ensure the indicator light on the switch is blinking rapidly. If not, press and hold the power button on the switch for 5-10 seconds until it blinks.
  5. Connect to Wi-Fi: Enter your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network password (5GHz Wi-Fi is not supported).
  6. Pairing: The app will begin searching for the device. Once found, you can rename it for easy identification (e.g., "Living Room Dimmer").

Operating Instructions

1. Manual Control

The switch has physical buttons for basic control:

  • Power Button: Press to turn lights ON/OFF.
  • Dim Up Button: Press to increase brightness.
  • Dim Down Button: Press to decrease brightness.
  • Indicator Lights: A series of small LEDs indicate the current dimming level.

2. Voice Control

Once paired with the Smart Life app, you can link your account to Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant for voice commands.

  • For Alexa: Enable the "Smart Life" skill in the Alexa app. Discover devices.
  • For Google Assistant: Link the "Smart Life" service in the Google Home app.
  • Example Commands:

    • "Hey Google, dim Living Room Dimmer to 50%."
    • "Alexa, set Living Room Dimmer to 100%."

Maintenance

The TESSAN Smart Dimmer Switch requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the switch and wall plate with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • No User-Serviceable Parts: Do not attempt to open or repair the device. This will void the warranty.

Troubleshooting

  • Switch not responding/No power:
    • Check the circuit breaker to ensure power is on.
    • Verify all wiring connections are secure and correct (Live, Load, Neutral, Ground).
    • Ensure a neutral wire is present and correctly connected.
  • Lights flicker or don't dim properly:
    • Ensure you are using dimmable LED, CFL, or incandescent bulbs. Non-dimmable bulbs will not work correctly.
    • Check the total wattage of connected bulbs; it should not exceed the switch's maximum load.
    • Some LED bulbs may require a minimum load to dim properly.

  • Cannot connect to Wi-Fi/App:
    • Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4GHz. The switch does not support 5GHz networks.
    • Check your Wi-Fi password for accuracy.
    • Make sure the switch's indicator light is blinking rapidly during pairing mode. If not, reset it by holding the power button for 5-10 seconds.
    • Move the switch closer to your Wi-Fi router if signal strength is weak.
    • Restart your router and try pairing again.
  • Voice control not working:
    • Ensure your Smart Life account is correctly linked to your Alexa or Google Assistant app.
    • Verify the device name in the Smart Life app matches what you are saying.
    • Check your internet connection.
