Setup and Fueling

1. Assembly

The Dyna-Glo WK24BK heater requires minimal assembly. Refer to the detailed diagrams in the full product manual for specific steps. Ensure all components are securely fastened before proceeding.

2. Fueling the Heater

  1. Ensure the heater is turned OFF and completely cool before fueling.
  2. Remove the fuel tank from the heater. The heater includes a siphon pump for easy and clean fueling.
  3. Fill the fuel tank with 1-K Kerosene only. The tank capacity is approximately 1.9 gallons. Avoid overfilling.
  4. Carefully replace the fuel tank into the heater, ensuring it is seated correctly.
  5. After initial fueling or if the wick has dried out, allow the wick to soak in kerosene for at least 60 minutes before attempting to ignite the heater. This ensures proper saturation and prevents damage to the wick.

  2. Open the flame viewing window (if applicable) to observe the wick.
  3. Press and hold the red "PUSH TO IGNITE" button (Figure 6) for a few seconds until the wick ignites. The heater features an automatic side ignition.
  4. Once ignited, release the button. Observe the flame through the viewing window (Figure 7) to ensure proper burning.

2. Wick Height Adjustment

The wick height controls the flame size and heat output. Use the "WICK HEIGHT" knob (Figure 6) to adjust:

  • Turn towards "RAISE" to increase flame height and heat output.
  • Turn towards "LOWER" to decrease flame height and heat output.

Adjust the wick so the flame is stable and burns cleanly without excessive smoke or odor. An optimal flame is typically blue at the base with a yellow tip.

3. Shut-Off

To turn off the heater, use the one-touch shut-off lever (Figure 8). Push the lever down to quickly extinguish the flame. Ensure the flame is completely out before leaving the heater unattended.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your heater.

1. Wick Care

  • Wick Cleaning: Periodically clean the wick to remove carbon buildup. This can be done by raising the wick to its highest position when the heater is cool, gently scraping off any carbon with a stiff brush, and then lowering it.
  • Wick Replacement: Wicks typically last 2-3 years with proper maintenance. Replace the wick if it becomes frayed, damaged, or no longer produces a clean flame. Refer to the full manual for detailed wick replacement instructions.

2. General Cleaning

  • Keep the exterior of the heater clean with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Ensure the air intake and exhaust vents are free from dust and debris.

3. Storage

When storing the heater for extended periods, drain any remaining kerosene from the tank and allow the wick to dry completely. Store in a dry, dust-free environment.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Heater will not ignite. No fuel, wick not saturated, igniter issue, wick too low.Check fuel level, allow wick to soak (60 min), check igniter batteries, raise wick.
Excessive smoke or odor.Improper fuel, wick too high, dirty wick, insufficient ventilation.Ensure 1-K Kerosene is used, lower wick, clean wick, provide more ventilation.
Flame is weak or uneven.Low fuel, dirty wick, wick needs replacement.Refuel, clean wick, replace wick if necessary.
