Always prioritize safety when handling electrical appliances, especially those used in water. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or damage to the product.

  • Ensure the heater is fully submerged in water before plugging it into a power outlet. Operating the heater out of water will cause it to overheat and fail.
  • Always unplug the heater from the power supply before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or handling the heater or aquarium water.
  • Do not operate the heater if the power cord or plug is damaged.
  • This appliance is intended for indoor use only.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not attempt to repair the heater yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.

5. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your aquarium heater:

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove the heater from its packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage.
  2. Placement: Choose a location in your aquarium where water circulation is good, typically near a filter outlet or in an area with consistent water flow. This ensures even heat distribution.
  3. Mounting: Use the provided suction cups to securely attach the heater to the inside wall of your aquarium. Ensure the heater is positioned vertically and is fully submerged in the water. The water level must always be above the 'MINIMUM' water level mark indicated on the heater.
  4. Temperature Setting: Before plugging in, rotate the temperature regulator dial at the top of the heater to your desired temperature. The recommended temperature range for most tropical fish is 24-26°C (75-79°F).
  5. Close-up image of the temperature regulation dial on the SunSun Aquarium Heater, showing temperature markings from 18 to 34 degrees Celsius.

6. Operating Instructions

After proper installation, the heater will begin to operate automatically.

  • Initial Heating: The indicator light will illuminate when the heater is actively heating the water. It will turn off once the set temperature is reached.
  • Temperature Monitoring: Use a separate aquarium thermometer to monitor the water temperature. It may take several hours for the aquarium water to reach the desired temperature, especially in larger tanks or during initial setup.
  • Adjusting Temperature: If the water temperature needs adjustment, unplug the heater, wait a few minutes for it to cool, then carefully rotate the temperature regulator dial to a new setting. Re-submerge and plug in the heater. Monitor the temperature with your thermometer.
  • Automatic Operation: The heater will automatically turn on and off to maintain the set temperature.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficiency of your heater.

  • Cleaning: Over time, algae and mineral deposits may accumulate on the heater's surface. Always unplug the heater and allow it to cool completely before removing it from the aquarium for cleaning. Gently wipe the heater with a soft cloth or sponge. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Water Changes: During water changes, ensure the water level does not drop below the 'MINIMUM' mark on the heater. If it does, unplug the heater immediately and only plug it back in after the water level has been restored and the heater has cooled.
  • Cord Inspection: Periodically inspect the power cord for any signs of damage, fraying, or kinks.
